    I'm back

the PC was considered at some point a fad as well

Yes, there are tons of mp3 players out there and it's a free world. Consumers have the freedom to choose which player they buy.
the iPod's almost synonymous to portable mp3 player now.. especially to the ordinary consumer.. who shops based on what people buy and not the reviews etc..

Well its a FAD thats rockin the world. If your battery runs out under warranty they will replace your entire IPOD with a new or refurbushed one. Battery life has also improved from theolder generations to what they have now. Also lot of third party companies are coming up with different portable batteries for the IPOD to help those poeple having problems with them.

I agree with Zerone, synonymous to portable mp3 na gyud, its like saying IPOD instead of MP3 just like when you say COLGATE instead of toothspaste hehehehe

I bumped into a friend with an ARCHOS player, just about the same size as ZEN. I find it a player that will require you to bring an bag with you to pocket it because of the size. So it would be for guys who wouldnt mind or are already carrying gadget bags with them around (I do sometimes already hehehe) But when that friend of mine saw the IPOD, he loved it

On the extravagant side, If you have the money, get three, IPOD Nano, IPOD VIDEO and ZEN VISION. All three have functionalities that can be used in different environments and situations. Ill try to grab a zen and review it nya

I don't see why people call it a fad since it is a GREAT product. For long trips or car rides, I use a Zen Touch mainly because of battery life, but for walking around and in my pocket, I now use an Ipod Nano. I used to have a Shuffle, but only had it because it was solid state storage, the Nano has replaced that. I still have a couple other Ipods I've gotten over the past three years. I don't use them as a fashion statement nor would I. An MP3 player would probably be the most expensive thing on me at any given time and no one would ever know if I had an Ipod with me since it's always tucked away and I've replaced the buds with a cheap but better sounding and fitting Sennheiser pair of buds.

There is one common denominator between the Ipod and other "fads" of the past (Xerox, Walkman, Frigidaire, etc) ... they were all great products. Not to mention that the price of Ipods these days have almost come on par pricewise with other players from Creative and Dell. 20-50 dollars difference is nothing if you are buying something as expensive as an music player from a reputable manufacturer.
