i think this is an unfair statement that is implying something wrongfully against fingolfin who i'm sure is a devoted parent. i also don't think that there is a person who is more concerned for a child that the child's parents themselves.

I beg to disagree. There are many parents who are the ones pushing their children to become wayward elements of society. Some are pushing their daughters to prostitution and their sons to drug addiction and life of crime.

fingolfin wants to guide his son like a free spirit. He wants to guide his son like a feather fluttering in the wind. He is saying he will be teaching his son that life sucks and its not a fairy tale.

Now I wont pass judgment on fingolfin's method but isnt it that as a parent you will be the one to shield your child from the ugly face of the world? from the evils of society. Isnt it a duty of the parent to show that there is a hope of the world despite all its wickedness and failings? As dutiful parent you only want to show the good side of things so that his mindset will be shaped by goodness instead of the cruelty of the world?

For if you teach your child negative things, then that will be ingrained in his conciousness and he will become bitter with the world that will eventually lead to an anti social behavior.

i do admit that there are indeed parents who try to bring up their children the wrong way but then not all of them do. there are still good parents out there. my late parents are for me a prime example.

personally, i will definitely show my child (if i have one) the good things in life.Â* these are the things that we need to enjoy.Â* however, i will not shield my child to the point of making him ignorant of the "darker side" of life. that would be a disadvantage to him.Â* i want my child to know the darker side so he wil know to make the right choices.Â* Â* in any case, i won't discuss this issue any further because we're getting a bit off topic.
