the meters and the computer are just in one common location or remote? if remote, what is your communication medium? gprs? sms? fiber? etc. is it outdoor or indoor? do you have a diagram?

the meters are remotely located, we opt to use radio freq. as comm. medium. you have knoledge on this bro?

RS-485 is not sensitive. you can use ordinary UTP Cable for indoor or the Shielded Twisted Pair for outdoor. But I prefer branded UTP's (Belden/Siemon) and the shielded since some RS-485 connections uses shield. what type of radio are you going to use and what is the frequency?
