    its part of the appeal.
This is what im talking about. Just because a song is overused and overkilled doesn't mean it loses its appeal. Or maybe im just saying that cause i dont listen to radio that much,,,,

I judged music not by how popular or unpopular it is but by how i was moved by it...

I love Edwin Mccain and Chumbawamba. Both are one hit wonder in the mainstream world but pretty much still kickin a** today on independent circuit particularly in the americana music scene( Chumbawamba's sound changed dramatically from anarchic punk to dance pop to the recent chamber folk yet their lyrics remains the same. Still criticizing the greater masses and in their latest album, And the Boy Band Have WOn, they attack Lord Bono and The Edge. But they do it with class anyways. I don't agree to everything they say but admit it, these guys have humor.)

i was expecting this kind of reaction from you. i started to dislike coldplay when they went mainstream, but it doesnt mean that their songs arent good anymore. their songs just felt different to listen (in my own perspective) when they were still away from the spotlight. its a matter of personal preference.

yeah, popularity is definitely not the basis to judge the musicality of an artist. im not dissing the quality of their songs, coldplay is still a great band. i jus dont listen to them anymore coz they no longer appeal to me. the alternative aura they got back in 2000 is gone.

sorry but i hav to disagree...popularity is part of the appeal, thats why we have categories such as Pop and Alternative. there are jus people who are drawn into songs that are not in the radar. im one of them.

    i heart madonna!

i just don't get the point of an indie attitude. and i didn't get the point of the mainstream attitude either.

I got friends from both sides. One friend of mine is puzzled why i listen to bands he never heard before (The Duhks, Punch Brothers, The Sparrow Quartet, Sevin, Crave, etc...). He told me my music is uncool and embarrassing. He likes hiphop but he never appreciate Atmosphere, Sevin, Flobots, and Brother Ali because he never heard of them and it's not yet on the radio. He also likes acoustic pop MYMP before but now he doesn't like it anymore because "they lost their edge" and has no impact like b4.

While on the other hand i got this friend who is bewildered and called me inconsistent (i have no idea why he thought of that) because my Jonas Brothers' It's About Time Cd is filed next to The Punch Brothers and keep telling me to stop listening to Coldplay because they got too popular and that i should also throw away my Pedro The Lion CD because David Bazan "loses" his edge. (atleast he and my mainstream friend got some common grounds right there about the "edges").

While it's true that most bands that become mainstream loses their creativity in favor of the big bucks and that some mainstream bands are "manufactured" and they "can't really sing", let us not forget that there are also some indie bands who can't sing yet gained some street cred and pitchfork/patrol mag/stereo subversion/even Paste magazine approval just because they are obscure even though they got no talent at all...

For me personally, i listen to music i can relate to regardless if it's by Tool or The Backstreet Boys. But when it comes to genre preferences, i always prefer bluegrass/country/americana/folk but it doesn't mean i appreciate all bands that fall into those categories. I'm very choosy and discernful when it comes to bands and music but popularity is never my criteria...

    Just an opinion.

"CCM is just another label thrown by the media. I have a friend who never listened to The Fray until she learned recently that their second album will be released through INO RECORDS/ EPIC. INO of course is known as a CCM indie label who has a distribution partnership with SONY."

And another christian friend of mine just confirmed this. He is now a certified The Fray fans! hahahaha what a joke...

And of course let's not forget that The Jonas Brothers' first album was released by INO in partnership with Columbia for mainstream distribution. And thankfully christian fans of the bros still support them because their latest CD is still distributed on christian bookstores through Provident-Integrity Distribution.

its all about maturity I think.. usahay gud ang uban mauwaw ingnon na baduy.. like for example I listen to Bon Jovi.. some will laugh at me kay naabot na baya ang Bon Jovi sa Bukid..

sa ako lang pud unsay labot nako nila kung baduyan sila sa ako music as long as Im happy listening to it.. .who cares bisan si April Boy pana ang artist..

and you are difinitely right.. I also listen to indie artist, .. dili tanan indie nindot.

IMHO music is too subjective to be judged...

you listen to what you like, don't worry about anything else
