wow. a very RELIABLE site. (or is it?) how about something from britannica.com? hm, how about from a very editable encyclopedia, say, wikipedia? oh, wait, we can't just place reincarnation as a scientific fact, because wikipedia still screens all articles, and all information without proof and or basis, cannot be published as it is. hm, all reliable encyclopedias state that reincarnation is a doctrine or a belief. why isn't it an established scientific fact in those encyclopedias? i wonder. are those encyclopedias out of date? hm, or maybe they are not reliable. come to think of it, 300 years is not enough to establish a famous encyclopedia. amiryt? there is no finality of the research on "reincarnation". in order for it to be a generally accepted scientific fact, there is a need for more proofs and/or research. there is no evidence of a physical process by which a personality could survive death and travel to another body, even your Ian Stevenson recognizes this problem. most people do not remember previous lives. all the research done has produced anecdotal and circumstantial evidences. there is a need for empirical evidences. i think sir, that you know what confabulation and confirmation bias mean, given your field of specialization. these are hindrances to the proofs of reincarnation. until all things are straightened, reincarnation remains to be an ongoing research, a metaphysical doctrine and belief, nothing more.

Dr. Ian Stevenson of the University of Virginia Medical School has researched over 2.600 cases of children's past life recall. At least 900 of these cases have been verified, which means that Dr. Stevenson got enough information from the children subject of his investigations to identify the past life personality they remembered as theirs.
The methods and investigation techniques that Dr Stevenson has followed for many years has earn him a well deserved respect among the scientific community -always skeptical as we all know- and the few attempts by religious zelots to "debunk" and minimize his findings have been proven to be mistaken and lacking of any valid basis. And it comes as no surprise that the defense against these attacks has been taken not by Dr. Stevenson himself but by his colleagues.
A Challenge from Beyond Although Stevenson never publicly stated a personal belief in reincarnation, he did express his desire to communicate after death. Nearly 40 years ago, the psychiatrist purchased a combination lock and set the code himself with a mnemonic device. He sequestered the lock in a file cabinet and placed it in the Division of Perceptual Studies. He reportedly told colleagues that after death, he would attempt to pass on the mnemonic device. Since Stevenson's death in February 2007, the lock has not been opened.

Children's Past Lives: A very strong case.
One of the most solid basis of Dr. Stevenson's research about reincarnation is the fact that the subject of his investigations are young children. Why? Because they are more likely not to be as affected by bias or prejudices as we grown-ups are.
