Atheism Vs. Religion

My friend and I had a debate once about this topic. Her being an uber R.Catholic and me who rarely goes to chuch. I asked her, why do we need religion? Its has been the one of the reasons people die, go to war and a lot of bad sh*t happenin' to this world. I know our country is very religious, and doesn't like to talk about this topic. But I think as the years pass,people are becoming more "Liberated" thinking that they don't need religion. What do you think? post your replies, rants and etc. Thanks

well me myself rarely go to church,but im a r.catholic
but though...yeah we also once talk about it with my gf coz she's a protestant
we are both different religion,but we do not fight bec of that...

i also sometimes ask myself is it really a need to have a religion or is it really a compulsory to have a religion?<--- just a question to myself..

i do believe in GOD,but i don't often go to church and read bible...
i am not an atheist also...

If its the god of exoteric christians,anthropomorphic, (vengeful, angry,wrathful, jealous) then il be forced to become an atheist.
for me a god w/ such a temperament doesnt fit the resume of an almighty being, in fact i knew of mortal human being that has a better character than this god.
I think mother teresa is better than this biblical god of christians, not unless it shoudnt be taken literally cause by then its an entirely different issue.
BUT if its the god of the GNOSTICS, the all embracing principle, the causeless cause, the all in all, then i believe in that god
