Cover Songs or Composition?... w/c is ideal to play?

principles are very important for a band.. what statement would you make if you played covers?? although pwede man mag cover ka sa pagsugod nimo as a musician kay part man na sa learning process however your past will always follow you around.. what you do now will always hound you in the future..

playing covers is our way of finding the chemistry among the bandmembers.
if blended and brewed na , then it's the ripe time to start the comps.

dude.. i don't entirely agree with you.. i learned that lesson the hard way.. maybe u can play around with a few covers at first BUT chemistry with your bandmates is not determined by playing around with covers coz they may have different influences man gud on their own.. bisan pareha pa mo ug gipaminaw at that specific time u formed the band, lahi gyud ghapon inyo background.. Songwriting is largely dependent on the influences of the individual bandmembers sukad sa pagsugod nila ug PAMINAW ug music, meaning sukad pa nila PAGKA BATA... We are all limited to what we know... Whether a musician likes it or not, apil gyud to iyang influences pagkabata.. That's why some singers are so beatleuesque even though they don't own a beatles record, or claim to not have been influenced by them... Subsconsciously, they have been influenced, albeit, from their parents' old record collection...

I learned that lesson the hard way.. i used to sing for a band and i had really accomplished bandmates.. they were so good, we covered everything from Ramones, White Zombie, Smashing Pumpkins, Screaming Trees, Extreme, Pearl jam, Green Day, Candlebox etc.. We did that for more than a year.. But When we tried writing our own songs, i personally found them really crappy... We couldn't find our own identity... sayang...

I think chemistry can properly be ascertained by playing originals as soon as possible...

sa ako nahibaw-an niagi man jud ug covers.
bisag kanang mga NAMED bands karn, niagi man gihapon na sila ug covers sa una(i hope dili ta modeny ani).
then , after some time, sugod na ug compo.

para nako lang ang covers para pacomfortabli sa matag-usa. nya kong hinoghinog na, palawm na dayn into writing your own songs.

gawas nlang siguro kung ang mga gatukod sa banda mga 'Seasoned' na kaayo or from other bands na. kana compo na tirada.

for me playn cover song's is not bad because thats the time that influnces of the members comes out then ma realize sad nila if worthy ba sila to idolize the songs that they are playin if dli nila kaya kay stop!!! which in the other side playn it right ... in return they can exprment and create thier own songs dba ok lang ang cover basta mayron silang genra sa mga cover songs nila not like showbands dba

i know of several bands na nag start out as all original band... hmmmm... we started out as an all original band and it took us 3 years before we played our first ever cover song.
