...mostly jud magcover but the ultimate aim is to play their own songs if they already got the popularity... bands are seeking for popularity&exposure by playing covers...

Di gyud ko mo-agree ani imong statement. Urbandub lagi... di man sila cover pagsugod but they're bigtime na. Unya ang Sheila, Cattski, nagsugod ug cover, pero they admitted in some of their interviews nga nag-lisod sila ug reposition sa ilang banda. Depende ra man tingali na kung unsa ang preference sa usa ka banda. Ato lang nang respitaan ug di nato lalisan. Ato lang pud silang suportaan kay kung maayo sad gyud diay mo-cover ug mo-original ang banda. Sakto pud to ang punto nga ang covers nindot himuon ug inspiration or resources for new ideas. Ana man gyud na tingali. Even U2 or The Rolling Stones ingon ana man. Bottomline ani nga thread (my opinion) is that... coversongs have their own place to play and so does original bands. Advantage lang tingali sa original bands is mas-flexible sila mo-cover or mabuhat nila mo-cover tungod kay ilang ideas sa pagsuwat ug kanta gikan ra man pud sa lain nga kanta Im sure. Whereas ang mga coverbands, pasuwata ug kanta di ba murag di pa ma-istura ang ilang first few songs. Tinuod? Hehehe... No point to prove here i think.

playing covers is our way of finding the chemistry among the bandmembers.
if blended and brewed na , then it's the ripe time to start the comps.

dude.. i don't entirely agree with you.. i learned that lesson the hard way.. maybe u can play around with a few covers at first BUT chemistry with your bandmates is not determined by playing around with covers coz they may have different influences man gud on their own.. bisan pareha pa mo ug gipaminaw at that specific time u formed the band, lahi gyud ghapon inyo background.. Songwriting is largely dependent on the influences of the individual bandmembers sukad sa pagsugod nila ug PAMINAW ug music, meaning sukad pa nila PAGKA BATA... We are all limited to what we know... Whether a musician likes it or not, apil gyud to iyang influences pagkabata.. That's why some singers are so beatleuesque even though they don't own a beatles record, or claim to not have been influenced by them... Subsconsciously, they have been influenced, albeit, from their parents' old record collection...

I learned that lesson the hard way.. i used to sing for a band and i had really accomplished bandmates.. they were so good, we covered everything from Ramones, White Zombie, Smashing Pumpkins, Screaming Trees, Extreme, Pearl jam, Green Day, Candlebox etc.. We did that for more than a year.. But When we tried writing our own songs, i personally found them really crappy... We couldn't find our own identity... sayang...

I think chemistry can properly be ascertained by playing originals as soon as possible...

shoeless, wa man ko nisulti or ni-imply nga wala ni-cover and urbandub. in fact, what i wrote was "di man sila cover" and not "wala man sila nag-cover". they did a couple of cover sets back then, yes, but they officially came into the scene as an original band man gyud as opposed to sheila ug cattski. besides that, the thread here is - Cover Songs or Composition?... w/c is ideal to play? - if u ask me, i think it's rubbish to even validate this argument because in the end it's simply a case of personal preference. and either way, both preferences have their own merits. gets mo? my comment was not whether to dispute kung sakto ba ang cover or dili but rather to ask nganong i-discuss pa man kung asay mas-maayo sa duha. again it's like asking asay mas maayo nga relihiyon. kung naay banda nga decided mo-cover, let them be. kung naay gusto mag-orig, let them be as well. like i said, both choices have a place in this world. kung ato ning lalison kini nga topic, futile kaayo kay mura ra ta'g naglalis kung asa ta nga simbahan mo tu-o. gets mo? so what's the point of this thread then? gets mo? to conclude, whatever a band wants to play, let the audience decide whoever they wish to support. in the end, happy ra man gihapon ta. gets mo?
