joy division ug the fall. new wave bah na sila? apil sad diay ang devo. hitch na lang pod ang the cure bahala ug mainstream. kinsay nahan diri the smiths?

bai joy division white punk na sila bai.... the fall dili kaau ko sure sa ila genre... well devo.. they are not new wave... for sure! the cure: the 1st tym they came out punk na sila bai but later on nisakay sila sa fad... nag new wave sila but nindot man ilang mga songs! the smiths they are the best band that ever lived!

many have this perception that JOY DIVISION (the previous incarnation of NEW ORDER) is a punk band, which isn't so! If some of you know JOY DIVISION music border between doom and gothic rock,back then in our high school days they were referred to as doom rock. They realy use power base chords to create a modal feel to it. Although JOYDIVISION success was shortlived due to death of their lead singer IAN CURTIS who committed suicide by hanging himself on the night of there concert. Much of the remaining members continue to pursue to what JOYDIVISION stood for so thats when later NEW ORDER enter into the picture. Its basically has the elements of JOYDIVISIOn but now they infused it with a dosed of synthesizers and keyboards and a mixture of guitar riffs making it more techie and unique sounds....with regards to the FALL, i dun have much clear picture of this band all i know that they were a seven band group much of there sounds cross between synthessizer punk or obscure new wave pop....DEVO is categorized new wave but it falls into the synth-pop category with the likes of THOMPSON TWINS, HUMAN LEAGUE, INDUSTRY and many more. Although there sounds carry a brand of infectious danceable or techo beat to it....CURE isnt punk band at all, although during that 80s era esp in UK, the prevalent bands were dominated by the CLASH and *** PISTOLS which makes it a trend for other bands to follow thru.

But if you asked me about it CURE isnt a punk band at all, they are new wave gothic band with the likes of SIOUXSIE and the BANSHEES, THE CREATURES and many more i forgot. The difference between gothic rock and punk rock band is that while punk bands talks them of rebellion and anarchy or radical atittude of expression, gothic dwells on the dark side of the human soul, experience and often conversing themes bordering human psychology and even religion too. Its characteristic can be also manifested in there manner of dressing and make-up in which displays a bizzare twist of fashion in there eyelashes often times they merge with punk.Some of CURE even earlier song were often subject to criticism esp to those religious freaks and racial denomination with likes "KILLING AN ARAB" or "HEAD ON DOOR", its no wonder why this band is still exist even a decades has lapse and has gone to influence a new generation of artist like EVANESCENCE and many more. You can credit it to frontman of the band (Robert Smith) for his famous gothic stylish hair n make - up and his brilliant and poetic songwrting abilities. Well the SMITHS is a classic display of good ole new wave british band success, but i wouldnt reconsider them best,they just have there time...i guess its strength lies on MORISSEY crafty, poetic and often sublime lyrics dose with the impeccable guitar playing skills of Johny Marr,its too bad MORRISEY irreconciliable difference cant keep them up. But i guess with his solo career you can still feel the SMITHS sounds and persona in him.
