    forum of the official announcement
ANNOUNCEMENT: Firmware Issues - Internal (ATA and Serial ATA) drives - Seagate Community Forums

and the Official Seagate Epic Fail thread
Official st31000340as 1TB barracuda epic fail thread. - Internal (ATA and Serial ATA) drives - Seagate Community Forums

so far customer support is saying that the fix should be available next week.
some are saying the the firmware does not fix all the problems. no confirmations yet.
customer are also refusing to give anything if you dont have the problem.

    quote from the forums
Hey, I have one of the hard drives listed in the KB 207931 article <gives him information about my ST3500320AS as well as my phone number, e-mail addy, etc)
Can you send me a link for the firmware update?

CS: Is there anything wrong with your drive, misreported space or anything?

    No.

CS: Well, we can't provide you with any firmware update if nothing is wrong with the drive.

I'm trying to prevent it from experiencing the problem in KB 207931...not being detectable by the BIOS, that's why I want to apply the firmware update before that happens.

CS: If nothing is wrong with the drive and there are no symptoms you don't need the update, if something does go wrong or symptoms show up then we will provide you with the firmware update.

...but if I can't access my hard drive because the BIOS doesn't see the hard drive...how will I apply the update?

CS: *mumbles a lil* if nothing is wrong with the drive we still can't provide the update

Why not...I mean...it won't hurt my drive to be updated...

CS: But if nothing is wrong you don't need it. It's like going to the hospital if nothing is wrong.

No, it's like getting a vaccine so I don't die from the plague...and then end up at the hospital dead trying to get a vaccine!

CS: *mumbles something I can't understand*

Can you just send me the link for the firmware update. I'll take my chances...

CS: It will not be released until Wednesday at the earliest but you still don't need it.

Thanks for all your help, bye.
    just found it very funny.

Do we have a Seagate service center here in Cebu? Is the one in SM a service center or just a retail branch?

i think if have your Official Receipt (and the sticker of ATP) from the store where you bought- they will entertain you...

    BTW- ill take these chances
Kanang mga nakapalit nako- if your HDD are included on the list and experiencing these kind of bug- im open for negotiation to claim for warranty and replacement in the factory
but be sure that your hdd still with factory warranty
    just send me pm

what the? are walking tru a valley of death?... if ang firmware nga naa sa atong drive ron are affected yet we dont feel any problem? does it save the drive forever? NO.... So if this Seagate could just release the vaccine right away, then by 50% ma relax atong huna huna... I have almost half the size of 500GB very important files! i don't even have single backups..... I couldnt say "man, i'll just wait till my drive dies"......

    guys any update from seagate?

CHECK HERE:whether your drive is affected or not by supplying your drive's serial number.... mine is saying not affected.
