for me, this a case of a friend going envy.... envious of your likes..

you said that your bestfriend have been your bestfriend eversince way back 1st year highschool right?.. in all the years you've been together.. she had develop some attachments with you. attachments that she's thinking that she might lose you someday to some guy you tend to fall in love with(eventually). Being all that she is, I guess that all the years of being friends have develop in her the sense of awareness and sense of KSP and lack of confidence with herself... You might be mostly the guys girl and she's just a nobody in one corner of the room...

So, her natural feeling of self inadequacy and the feeling of being unwanted gets the most of her.. since you told her that you like the guy, she went jumping in to take the situation more... to her liking..

Don't ask if your bestfriend loves you alright, because I know deep down she really loves you.. that is.. loving you and all the people that you also love the most...

This won't be the first and the last for you... the next time you confide to her again about your deepest wants and gets.. she will be the one to first jump in and get that for you..trust me on that..

Your friend loves you dearly and everything and everyone that you love or care to love...she'll take that off away from you..
