I know exactly what I mean. Vista is still buggy as an OS...script errors are not uncommon not only for me but for the others (my brother and cousins) who have switched to it. I don't wish to post a litany of software bugs that I encountered here. All I know they are script errors and I mean script errors. Ditto for dialog boxes that Vista doesn't support this and that device/driver even if they are new. But XP works well on those devices.

The Vista platform (x32 or x64) is still not mature even for building third party applications. My bro, a programmer by profession admits that XP (XP Pro and XP Embedded) still remains to be the more stable platform than Vista.

Vista obviously has problems with usability issues too...a loadful of security prompts make the whole vista experience less palatable for both experienced and ordinary user. The only consolation you get from this vista thing is just the looks...between a good gui and a working code, do you think a good gui would really matter?

But then again, I'm not saying it's hopeless for vista. Just that we're getting more of a beta version of it than the commercial one. Vista as it is now is a big let down.

script errors using IE ... like
Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object
    Code: 0

I need to run debug and all just to get it running back...running on Vista Ultimate...whatever those errors mean, I didnt really have such probs in XP before.

Btw, all's settled with the UAC...point is -- it's pretty annoying when you have to deal with it the first time you get ur hands on. Consumer PCs are supposed to be like using any consumer device and should at least show little problems. A typical user finds it daunting to see such alerts popping out every now and then making the PC experience less exciting.

Anyways...just my honest opinion from the point of experience. Until Vista comes up with those those fixes, XP still is the better OS as yet.

for your script errors, could be the website your visiting, that has errors, or maybe you dont have the java script plugin installed, who uses IE anyway? lol go firefox or opera. IE isnt so secure anyway and seriously you should update IE also if your gona use it.

Vista new thing imo and the best changes

    1. built in speech recognition, if you have a mic i suggest you try it, you can command your computer with YOUR VOICE! yes YOUR VOICE! lol and you can type stuff too, although its not perfect (ambient/background noises will interfere. its sensitive) its quite awesome and cool. No other OS does that.

    2. Viewing your files, there is now an option not just to view as thumbnails but as large and medium icons! awesome for pictures since i dont have to doubleclick to see it and i dont need to scroll left and right like flimstrip, its just there.

    3. Usage of ram. Unused RAM is wasted RAM period. Vista thinks and tries to use all of it and has prefetch, if you opened Photoshop once and closed it, next time you open it it will be much faster.

What extension? my .avi files are showing fine, but it doesnt show .mov or others, its also because of the coding of the file, or have you seen it in XP also?

yeah incompatibilities, try to find a creative driver, dont use built in vista drivers. not so reliable.
