unfortunately, this is not true of most PINOY NURSES working abroad. these nurses work overtime shifts with double jobs. murag dili pa kuntento sa usa bisag nurse na ug dako nag kita. mu trabaho pa gyud ug lain part-time. end result? daghan kwarta pero daghan pud utang. BURN OUT pa gyud sa trabaho just so they can support their lifestyle. they live such flamboyant lives... SUV diri, MANSION didto... mga materialistic kaayo.

thank god, m not one of them! how i wish...naa ko daghan money, mansion, SUVs etc...but on the contrary, part time ra ko ug usa ra ka car for more than 5 yrs na gi share namo ako hubby...whahahaha purdoy gyud tawn ni na RN!

Some people live way beyond their means... and they like it that way, pero in return - they work at least 12 hour shifts - apil weekends just so they can live their lifestyle.
They are also some nga they have 2 jobs para lang naay mapadala sa Pilipinas kay daghan pa silang gipang buhi, gipa iskwela.

TRUE. thats why i stated there :in my behalf and preferences...iba iba kaming mag diskarte eh.
some have a LOT to support/mouths to feed...<===which FUELS that drive to ENDURE *exceptional multitask*, it goes both ways though. from EXTREME COPING to MASSIVE BREAKDOWN/MELTDOWN.
kaya nga know thy self...know your LIMITS. the human body is capable of those EXCEPTIONAL things but to a certain point or limit.

some have minimal to none to support(single, has nothing do support except pamper their parents and return the favor)....<====iba naman ang ISTORYA ng mga ito.

and i cant speak for the WHOLE LOT/GENERAL...as for what you posted, i dont think it applies to NURSES abroad lang chad, it goes for all EXPATS everywhere.IMO.

of course it doesn't apply to nurses only. i only said nurses because we were talking about them.

Burn out? It's for people who are abroad who start small yet stay small. If you've been in the country for 10 years and are still where you are, tsk tsk, what did you do all those years? It is a matter of priorities, how to improve your living one day. Personally, it's not paying an enormous mortgage just so you have a big house, nice cars and in return work 2, 3 jobs. Prioritizing progress is for me, foreseeing the future and doing something about it, slowly. One way to get ahead is to further ones education. Masters? PhD perhaps? I am a believer that you can get more money once you get your masters.... so on and forth. Improve your skills all the time. If you don't do these perhaps expect you'll still have to work 2, 3 jobs to sustain your monthly expenses. Sacrifice, that's the key, but at least you have a goal.

See nurses? They reach their highest salary level quick, but they stay in that stream until they retire. Other fields like IT, there is so much room for growth, and you can reach higher income level up to more than $100k/annually. Because nurses have steady income salary range, if they want to earn more the only way is work more hours. Like, isn't going for masters the key? Hehhee. Just my two cents.

i agree with you @fruit salad as far as taking PhDs, Masters, etc. if say 70-80% of pinoy nurses abroad became nurse practitioners, then chances are, they wouldn't have to work more hours because they'd be making enough to cover their expenses.

but you also have to consider that taking PhDs and Masters are not as easy as one might think. you have to consider the expenses, the school/university, the convenience, and most especially, the TIME. taking degrees like that is NO JOKE. one has to dedicated his/her life studying. what if naa kay lima ka anak? see my point. there are endless factors that might prevent one from reaching his/her goals.

yup, it's good to make goals in mind. at the same time, daghan hindrance. for example, what if daghan kaayo silag gibuhi sa Pilipinas? pwede tuod ka mag student loan diri, but imong miscellaneous fees? apartment pa or dorm. imo pang kaon. basta, daghan kaayo factors.

Fruit Salad - sakto na imong gi sulti pero dili na mo apply sa tanan -especially sa mga pamilyado (like what CHAD mentioned). Lisod ang pag proceed sa Graduate School when you don't have the time to spare. Akong sister-in-law got her masters sa NYU pero I never asked my wife to get hers tungod nga mas importante iyang oras sa mga bata.

As far as I.T.'s - yes, there is room for growth pero grabe sab ang competition. There was a time (right after the Dot Com Bubble) when IT's were having trouble getting a job (regardless of how good you are) and some of them have to go out-of-state just to land a 4 month job contract.
