I don't think you're talking about "common" sense. Imo gihisgut kay "business" sense, which we obviously don't have since we're not business people.

"Common" sense would have it that we trust the management of the venue to go with their WORD OF HONOR, but apparently, they don't know what that is. I don't think anyone wants to deal with people without a word of honor. Would you? Kung niingon pa lang sila daan nga dapat bayran before we leave, then wala jud unta'y problema. Ngano huwaton man nga nanguli na kasagarang tao usa ingnon?

Maayo ra kaayo ang pier1 pag negotiation pa. Daghan kaayo promises. Nya pagna-close na ang deal, hugno tanan ilang mga saad. ZERO jud sa mga gi-sabotan originally was carried out as planned.

another thing that i think everyone should be aware of.
Naa sa'y laing panghitabo gahapon nga nagpakita kung unsa ka wa'y batasan ang management sa pier1.

when some of our colleagues arrived at the venue, naa pa'y laing tao gakaon sa lugar nga gi-exclusive na unta para namo (pasabot, gidaginut pa jud nila ang oras). here's the ugly part: GIPAGAWAS NILA ANG MGA NANGAON! please try to put yourself in that situation nga gakaon mo nya gipapahawa mo. it already happened once, it could happen to anyone. if the management had requested our colleagues to wait until the other customers were finished, we'd have been willing to wait.

pakapin pa jud, sa tunga2x sa among party, naa'y nanulod mga wala'y labot kay makig-apil sa disco. wala jud pugngi sa waiters or sa security, even when one of us complained. what part of "EXCLUSIVE" is hard to understand?
    ----------------------------------
i just want to say this.
the way the management of pier1 deals with their business seems like how you deal with a small business nga naa sa carbon naka-pwesto. it definitely doesn't seem like how a high-end restaurant should be run.

there is no mention of a function contract. without it, there's technically no party for your group.

if this really was the case, the organizers failed terribly.

there was a function contract but i don't know what the contents were (i'm not one of the organizers, just an attendee).
either way, i admit it's partially the fault of the organizers for not clarifying the details of the final contract. i think most of the organizers were first-timers, but they all tried their best. personally, i'd say the pier1 management should have considered this possibility and should have made sure to make the transaction smooth, since they're the ones with more experience (or so we thought).

in the end, i'd like to say that i'd hate to see our country stoop down to the level of the US where lawsuits are a lifestyle and nothing counts when it's not on paper. in australia, i heard you don't even need your photo on your driver's license because everyone can be trusted. i think i never mentioned "legal" action in this thread. if i did, let me correct myself. i don't know if our plight holds any ground in the court of law, that's why i decided to take it to the people via istorya.net to let them decide. after all, we're a democratic country.

    Final word to cheaptech:
Please don't ignore the comments that counter your point. one of the replies mentions a list of restaurants he knows that accepts payment the day after or a few days after the function. you might want to check that out before you continue pushing your point. like all transactions in the world, DEPENDE NAH SA NASABOTAN! kung naka-realize lang sila kalit nga kuwang na diay ang capital kung di mi mubayad so gikalit nila'g usab ang sabot, then that's not our fault so why should we suffer for their mistake? and if ing-ana jud diay ang ilahang policy, then fire the person who told us otherwise.

    -- END THREAD PARTICIPATION --

^there you go, fault of your organizers. to you and your organizers especially, would be better to take this as a learning experience.

Lesson: everything starts and ends with effective organizing.

and let's not say "such and such never got a contract and yet..." Why put the event at risk when you can be all protected by a contract? This is a complex society and we are all educated enough to come to a formal and written agreement. there is no reason not to have one.

    =Case Dismissed=
