pressing and holding the power button may damage the operating system but i don't think it does anything to the hard drive since the 5-second duration allows your hard drive's actuator arm to move out on top of the platters.
even a warm boot doesn't do physical damage since the hard drive is still operational. for me, ang main makaguba kay kung madiretso lang ug kapalong ang hard drive kay ang read/write head mohagsa sa platter.

Question: ing ana ba jud ka frequent mag format sa hardisk? ako pc 3 years na going on 4 years unya walay reformat. Kapila nani nasudlan ug trojan horse and worms pero usually ma remove raman sa antivirus or ma quarantine. Nonetheless, it still works just fine.
if cge ta reformat, then wako kasabot unsa pa gamit sa antivirus or antispyware?

actually bro... knng dugay na ka sge gamit sa imng hdd... naa na gyd na siya bad sectors ana... and before ka mag reformat, mag choose mn gyd ka either quick format or normal format... ang quick format is erase everything lng na naa sa imo hdd... while ang normal format is to move the bad sectors... i mean, e move sila sa usa ka lugar bah... this also can improve sa speed ky while dghan nag bad sectors imo hdd, mu hinay gyd na siya... bad sectors can't be moved. they're physical damages on the platter itself. what a format does is mark these sectors as bad so the OS won't use them. Originally Posted by korosukun
