^Oist, daghan baya pud American cars nga quality ang pagka himo. I have no complaints. Ang dapat ani, hatagan ug incentives ang mga tawo nga mopalit American-made cars, unya himoan deduction ning mga tawo nga hilig ug Japanese and European cars. I-ban ning mga BMW, Mercedes Benz etc etc

This is a setback on free trade, pero in an economy like this, tangkilikin ang sariling atin dapat ning mga kano.

Tangkilikin ang sariling atin defies common sense. Why would I buy an American car when I know it's a bad investment.. we all know about their resale value - we all know about their quality - and we all know how expensive it is to have a vehicle serviced (bisag surplus pa na ang parts, mahal gihapon ang labor).

American cars are notorious for their crappy quality. name an American car that levels the quality of their Japanese opponents. i would never buy a Chevy.

The Detroit Auto-Industry is just a fraction of the problem we're facing right now. If you are really concermed about the economic crisis, you should've emailed and faxed your congressmen and senators about the 700 Billion they just approved a couple of months ago.

I am not an american citizen period. I just happen to work in the auto-industry here.
I would like to ask you then, what did you do to help the economic crisis?
I have an american car and I am satisfied with it. I am not the right person to argue with you because I just came in this country and I am not well versed with their laws.
All I know is we are hurting by the downfall of the auto-industry.

Talking about outsourcing, mao na ang gabuhi sa cebu and even MEPZ is also affected by the US auto-industry. some companies in MEPZ are supporting the big three.

Personally? I emailed, faxed and called offices of Congressmen and Senators to NOT approve the TARP/EESA Bailout crap.

It's a sad thing - and chances are, Detroit is gonna lay more people off these following months. But to buy American vehicles during this time is utter foolishness. Yes, we might help save some jobs by doing so but we're also screwing ourselves in return.

The damage has been done, some of my co-workers were already laid off and Im afraid my friends in Cebu will suffer the same fate next year. It is your choice not to support the big three but I hope the people in your state will support Michigan in some other way.
It is not about who's fault why the auto-industry is suffering right now.
We have to look at the bigger picture, we are saving people here from being jobless.
I'd rather spend on gas more than the asian cars rather than lose my job.
I tried test driving other asian cars too and quality wise I have no problems with my car.
Saturn has also good mileage now so why don't you check it out.

Expect more lay-offs .. Bush is pushing for the Detroit Big 3 to go file for Bankruptcy.
I do not support the Detroit Auto Makers because they make inferior products compared to those of their competitors. They're playing catch-up to the Japanese BUT as long as they continue to cut corners, they'll always be at the back seat. Another thing - the Koreans actually bypassed them just this past couple of years -- shameful truth.

It is not about who's fault why the auto-industry is suffering right now.

It's funny.. when the BIG 3 CEOs first went to Washington to ask for a bailout, they got on their public jets. That trip alone could've paid a dozen plant-worker's monthly salary. They sure are trying to save money - such a classy way to beg the taxpayers for a bailout.

Here's a thought - if FORD, CHRYSLER, GM, etc.. can make a car using high-end components paired with quality craftmanship yet still manage to keep it affordable, then maybe the public would consider them over their Japanese and European counterparts. It is possible.. HYUNDAI did it. But then again - the economy has to get better for people to start buying cars.

There's really whole lot of things to consider when a consumer invests on a vehicle. One of those things is RESALE VALUE. Let's put Saturn as an example:

A Saturn Vue is priced at 23k up to 29K brand new. A 2004 Saturn Vue (USED with 45k miles) is being sold at 7K ... A 68% loss based on the VUE's entry level sticker price.

Now let's put things into perspective.

A Toyota RAV4 is priced at 21.5K to 24.49 (Limited Edition). A 2004 RAV4 with 61K Miles is being sold at 14K. That's a 37% loss in value after 4-5 years of service.

Another example

A Honda CRV is about 20.7K to 26.7K brand new (depends on the trim). A 2004 Honda CRV 4x4 EX trim with 60K Miles is being sold at 15K (original MSRP for a 4x4 EX is 24.15K) ... A 62% resale value.

Now - would you pick a Saturn over it's Japanese competitors?
