(feb 200 How P20 Grew To Millions (by: Bo Sanchez)

When You Give To God, He Blesses You

So You Can Give Even More!

    It all started with P20.

In 1979, Rey Ortega was having breakfast with 4 friends.

While reading the newspaper, his eye caught an article about 200,000 out-of-school streetkids in Metro Manila.

The figure blew his mind. He couldn’t believe it. 200,000 kids on the streets?

He told his 4 friends about it and pulled out his wallet. “Look, I have an extra P20 here. We may not be able to help 200,000 streetkids, but if we chip in, we can send at least one of these kids back to school.”

Immediately, his friends agreed. And together, they marched to Tipas elementary school in Taguig, Rizal.

They talked to the Principal and asked, “Do you know of a student graduating from Grade 6 who can’t go on to High School because of poverty?”

The Principal said yes. “Her name is Rodora Lopez.”

So Rey sent Rodora to school.

The following year, he sent another one.

The year after that, he sent another.

And he has not stopped ever since.

Today, Rey has produced 54 college graduates. They are CPA’s, cum laude’s from UP, and top 10 board placers.

He has sent 5 poor kids to school from families devastated by Mt. Pinatubo.

And 8 poor kids from families crushed by flash floods in Infanta.

And 7 kids from blind families in Antipolo.

And 5 poor young seminarians want to be priests.

As if this wasn’t enough, Rey began an orphanage last year.

He didn’t want these kids roaming in the streets. He wanted to give them a home. So he and his wife opened their own home to 10 orphans!

Thankfully, they now have a separate house for the orphanage. They now care for 19 orphans.

It hasn’t been an easy path.

In its previous location, his orphanage was in a subdivision. But 88 Homeowners in that subdivision signed a 3-page “rejection” letter, refusing to have an orphanage in their village. The news crushed him.

But Rey prayed for another place that would welcome God’s little children. Recently, he found another place—very near our FEAST in Pasig. Very soon, the kids can walk to the FEAST every Sunday for our children’s ministry. It was a great blessing in disguise.

For a long time, Rey was running a one-man show. Being a businessman, he had the money to fund his work for God. Just last year, from his own pocket alone, he spent more than a half a million pesos for his orphanage and his scholars.

So you can imagine, from his first P20 in 1979, he has now given millions away. (Not to mention his sweat, blood, and tears.) But that’s how God has prospered Rey’s own business since 1979.

Yes, God provides for his work.

I believe that this is the purpose of wealth.

God will enrich us so that we can give more.

When you give, He will prosper the work of your hands.

Rey’s friends have not stopped helping him either. With much patience, he knocked on doors, called up friends, and wrote many letters. Last year, they were able to raise P830,000 for his scholars.

But today, the children’s needs have grown far beyond what Rey or his friends can fund themselves.

    So I’ve partnered with Rey.

He is now a member of my community, the Light of Jesus. We have made him in charge of our own scholarship program. And we’ve adapted his work as our own. KerygmaFamily.com will provide funds for both the scholarship program and the orphanage.

Rey is a very special man.

His passion, his courage, and his love for the poor blesses me so much.

So the list of our work for the poor is growing, and I’m very happy.

    Here they are:

o Anawim, our home for the elderly. We care for 60 abandoned elderly in Montalban, Rizal. We provide shelter, food, medical care, and Christian love to those who have been forgotten by their families and society.

o He Cares, our ministry for streetkids. Founded by my friend Jodean Sola, he sends 230 streetkids to school, feeds 600 streetkids each week, oversees a relocation housing project for 120 families, and a micro-lending livelihood program for 130 mothers of streetkids. (I’ve been working with Jodean for the past 20 years now, and I’ve always been inspired by this big-hearted man. I’ll write about him next time.)

o ALAY, Rey Ortega’s scholarship program for 49 children, and Tahanan ng Pagmamahal orphanage of 19 children.

o Gawad Kalinga Village in Montalban, Rizal—120 homes.

o My community also does regular Prison Ministry in the women’s correctional here in Mandaluyong.

Everything big can start with P20.

Because as we give the little we have, God will bless us abundantly.

I want you to pray if God wants you to help us help others. If you hear His voice saying “Yes”, log on to KerygmaFamily - Shepherd's Voice Radio and Television Foundation, Inc. and be part of our borderless, international, non-physical family that wants to change the world for Jesus. As a way of saying thank you for your monthly love offering, I shall supply you with a mountain-load of spiritual nourishment everyday.

As Rey Ortega says, you don’t have to help 200,000 streetkids.

You just need to help one child…

    May your dreams come true,
    Bo Sanchez

Your Body Is God’s Temple—Keep It Healthy! (by Bo Sanchez)

    This will be short.

I want YOU to share to the world how you keep your body healthy. Inspire others to care for their body—which God calls the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

I thought of this topic because I just felt wonderful this morning. And I believe a lot of people rarely feel this way. They feel sluggish. Heavy. Slow. Weak. And depressed.

One reason why I feel wonderful each morning is because I do my daily exercise. For 30 minutes, I do very basic and simple Tai Chi movements. Stretching. Breathing. And praying to Jesus. I love it.

I then hop on my stationary bike and sweat for an hour. While I read or write on my laptop! (Yep, I have a special table on top of my bike just for that purpose. I actually went to a hardware store and invented it!) This morning, while biking, I read five chapters of the Bible, a story of a saint, and another spiritual book.

Unless I have very early breakfast meetings, I’m able to do this exercise regimen daily.

Honestly? I’m now 42 but I’ve never felt healthier in my life.

I believe life is what you make out of it. Who you are is a product of your daily habits. Next week, I’ll share with you my 10 Habits to a Healthy Body.

But this week, I’d like YOU to share to our thousands of readers what you do to keep your body strong and healthy. What kind of diet do you have? Do you take supplements? How much water do you drink? How do you deal with stress? Write your sharing at the comments below. Inspire others!

Hey, Christmas is approaching. People usually throw away their health out of the window during this season. Together, let’s tell them that there’s a better way.

    May your dreams come true,

    Bo Sanchez

10 Habits To A Healthy Body (by: Bo Sanchez)

Your future will be defined by your habits.

I’m ready to die anytime—right this minute if necessary. (I hope my wife isn’t reading this, because she hates it when I start talking this way.) My soul is prepared to go home to God at any moment.

But I also want to prepare for a long and healthy life—and that’s so possible. My father passed away when he was 88. And my Mom is going strong at 83. Studies show that the life span of human beings is getting longer. Babies born today have an average life span of 101 years old.

But hey, I don’t want to be lying down in bed when I hit 90! That’s the last thing I want to do. I want to be 90 and still be preaching around the world! And still be making love to my spouse. (Okay, I want my wife to read that one.)

By the way, your comments in my last Blog were very inspiring!

Here are my 10 Habits To A Healthy Body:

    1. Move!

I already mentioned that each morning, I do simple stretching and breathing Tai Chi movements—and pray to Jesus too—for 30 minutes. I also cycle for an hour on my stationary bike, all the while reading 5 chapters of the Bible and other spiritual books, or writing my journal in my laptop (See photo above). I also do a few pushups, sit-ups, and chin-ups. I’ll never win Mr. Universe, but it’s enough to tone my muscles. I learned that when we hit 50, we start losing 1.5% of our muscle strength every year. This is the reason why you see a lot of 60-year-old people who are very weak today—because they didn’t move their body. So walk. Swim. Play badminton. Move!

    2. Eat The Best Kinds Of Food

More than fourteen years ago, I stopped eating beef, pork, and chicken. Seven years ago, I also gave up crabs and shrimps. So my diet consists of fish and vegetables. At home, we eat organic brown rice and wheat bread. We also fry with soya oil. (Olive oil is too expensive.)

The Old Testament called certain foods unclean—like pork, crustaceans, shells, fish without scales—and modern science has found out that many of these foods have higher toxicity. Pork has more toxins than other meats. Crustaceans and shells are the scavengers of the sea. And because fish release their toxins through their scales, fish without scales have slightly more toxins. I’m not saying you shouldn’t eat these delicious food, but perhaps minimize them in your diet.

    3. Juice Your Vegetables

Every morning, I drink fresh vegetable juice. I throw into my Juicer four large carrots, one long celery stick, and one apple. The advantage of juicing? By juicing, I’m able to consume 4 large carrots in two minutes flat—something that would take me one hour if I munched them. As I drink my juice every morning, I picture God nourishing me in every part of my body. It works!

    4. Supplement

I’m a firm believer in taking supplements. I take a mega dose of vitamin C, fish oil (Omega 3), and other multi-vitamins. I also take a list of supplements too long to mention here. (One of these days, I’ll give you their names.) Before I drink them, I bless them. So they contain a double punch!

    5. Sleep Like A Babe

I usually dose off at 11:30pm and wake up at 6:00am. Six and a half hours is enough for me. If I feel a need to take a quick afternoon nap, I do it. I try to listen to my body. Praying before you sleep is fantastic because you’re able to surrender all your worries to God. So before I sleep, I do 20 minutes of my simple Tai Chi exercises again—as I surrender to Jesus all my stress. When I do this, I sleep like a babe.

    6. Drink Enough

The first thing I do when I wake up is drink a glass of room temperature water. As I drink it, I ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse me. After my exercise, I drink my carrot juice. Here’s what I found out: For many of us, what we think are hunger pangs may just be our thirst. So when you feel hungry, drink water first. And eat water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables.

    7. Work With Passion

Get into something your love to do. When you enjoy your work, it isn’t work. It’s play. And that keeps your body humming. If you can see your job as a sacred mission from God, you wake up in the morning with joy and excitement. Your body gets the message: “I need you to be healthy, because I’m here to bless the world.” (I have a TrulyRich Club where I coach people in their finances and work. To join, log on at Truly Rich Club now.)

    8. Feel Your Feelings

Our bodies are simply the blueprints of our emotions. When we get sick in our bodies, many times, it’s simply manifesting our stress, our fears, our anxiety, and our unresolved angers. I strongly urge you to become aware of your emotions and bring them constantly to the Lord. Before Him, work through them. Feel them, yes. Respect your emotions, yes. But lay them at His feet and follow God only.

    9. Be Happy

Be a positive person. If you’re a child of God, how can you not think positive? If you believe that “all things work for good to those who love God”, how can you not rejoice even in your problems? Happy people are generally healthier than unhappy people.

    10. Love Well

What keeps me healthy? I play with my kids on the floor everyday. (I call it “floor time”.) Each week, I date my wife and hold hands often. And I have fantastic friends! (By the way, wherever you are in the world, join my FREE virtual community and sign up at KerygmaFamily - Shepherd's Voice Radio and Television Foundation, Inc.)

Once upon a time, an Elderly home had a very high death rate: One resident died each month. But one day, a volunteer came and started social activities among the old people. As the old people engaged with each other in conversation, the mortality rate plunged dramatically almost overnight. Just being in relationships will make you healthier. Imagine how healthy you will be if those relationships are deep and loving?

Hey, there are lots of Christmas parties these days.

Be healthy, my friend. God needs you to bless the world.

    Merry Christmas!

May Jesus have a home in your heart.

To all the members of my virtual community, KerygmaFamily - Shepherd's Voice Radio and Television Foundation, Inc., thank you so much for being part of my life and ministry!
