Internet cafes in North Cot inspected for pirated software
By Williamor A. Magbanua/MindaNews / 18 September 2005
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation,
Optical Media Board, Business Software Alliance and the Philippine
National Police on Friday conducted a simultaneous inspection of all
internet cafés in North Cotabato following reports that most of them are
using pirated Microsoft software.
Business Software Alliance has instructed all internet café owners in
the province to register all their computer units in order to avoid
confiscation.
They were given a 30-day extension to comply with the requirements and
have their personal computers registered at the nearest Microsoft office
to legalize their business operation.
Some 20 internet cafés here that were using pirated Microsoft software
have closed since Friday following text messages regarding the raid that
occurred in Midsayap town.
