Just a quick review on both books:

Roque - provide fewer but higher quality questions (even though some of it were taken straight from CIA or AICPA test bank, but he has a good taste on what to copy). Plus in his book, he provides explanations. The book lifts questions from PSA group of standards. And most of all, cheaper!

Cabrera - She provides a battery of around 2-3K questions. If your looking to start mass-answering-memorizing your way to the exam, this is your guide. Just a word of caution, Cabrera auditing theory contains some very nasty wrong answers. Cabrera auditing theory books are sometimes a rip-off. Get 2006 and compare it with 2007 or 2008 or 2009, you'll find out that 99% are reprinted, except the cover art. And it cost almost twice as Roque.

My Opinion: For Auditing Theory, go for Roque. Forget, and i mean forget Cabrera.

Some recommended books for die-hard Auditing Theory studends/reviewees:

Bobadilla/Ocampo - Has Cabrera-like number of questions minus the inaccuracies, if you're looking to mass-answer and practice stress-testing your Auditing Theory know-how. There are some questions that are constructed creatively. Down-side - the book is primarily available at Lares (Bookstore fronting CPAR). Yes, Manila

Hermosilla, et al - If you're looking for a crash course for Auditing Theory, go for this book. It provides a very good discussion on the subject. You can fairly get whatever you need in that book if you're merely asking to understand the general concept of Auditing Theory with quotations from PSAs. However, since the book is only 250+ thick, do not expect it to contain verbatim standard reprints. Plus the book contains Q&As, no explanations though right after the Answers but can be found in the discussions. Again, only at Lares, Yes, Manila.

Hi Zodiac, yes I'm Edison Chu (not Tiu). And yes, I am with batch 2007. the price tags for those non-Cebu two books are P250 last time I was in Manila back in April.

Just be careful when you read Racaza books, there are some inconsistencies with the Q&A part. As for the Text part, it is a good starting point. It's good that you're supplementing it with Cabrera textbook. Just be careful when you decide to buy any Cabrera Reviewers (except for MAS--haven't reviewed that book during my student days).

Haha, Sir Gel.. Good one! Yup, I am ok if you call me "kuya". I'll just use English because a lot of manila folks are using Istorya(dot)net. And my Tagalog is not very good. huhuhu.

That's really sad what happened to MMPC. But then again, we did our part and that what counts. Every good good job should be performed by all parties for it to be successfull. Same goes for the board exam, you really cannot really for the teachers and reviewers to make you prepare well for the board. You're part has equal part footing too.

My advice for you're preparation during your undergrad are:
    1. Read read and read. Come to class at least a step ahead of the discussion.
    2. Practice practice and modify. Answering reviewers. Q&A, and past exams are only good if you seek to pass the course. But if you really want to make preparation for the board, try modifying the questions and understand the "limits" of the theory or questions. This part takes time and much effort though. If you can do this at least a good "some" of the questions will be very helpful. If there are insights that you can and will discover, it is as good as unforgettable!
    3. Good teachers like to be asked because they know the topics inside out and backwards. Take note of the qualifier "good". They like that their students ask questions, especially the tricky ones.
    4. Consistent studying for short periods of time is better that cramming the whole night long. Example: Say you want to study for 4hours. It is better for you to break it down in 30mins (depending on your attention span) sessions throughout the day(s) that burning 4hours straight.

Oh, thanks for asking me for advice. I'm flattered! Say hi to Sir Gel for me. hehehe
