I am just like you or any other person, the only difference is that I listened well to my science teachers in elementary and high school (not that all of them were that effective as teachers, but you get the point), and read science and astronomy books instead of comics.

I didn't pull this info out of my ass (or someone else' ass for that matter). Kani nga mga panghitabo sa atong kalangitan, they occur almost on a daily basis (and would have occurred even if I don't post about them here in iStorya), because the universe is indifferent to you--it goes on doing stuff, making stuff happen, regardless of your existence. There are thousands of interesting astronomical events occuring every single day...but then you're much more concerned about your gimmick with your barkada tomorrow night, or that new pair of shoes you've been wanting, for all things astronomy to really matter.

to predict astronomical events.

Some people in other parts of the world saw it that way...nagtupong jud...particularly the people in the island of Madagascar...and other parts of Africa, and boats in the Indian Ocean (esp. the area infested right now by Somali sea pirates).
