Im for a free-market economy. Wages should not be legislated. Should be based on supply and demand.

WARNINGS from economic managers and advisers of the adverse effects of raising wages on the viability of businesses have prompted President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to retreat from her earlier announcement that she would push for a legislated wage increase.

At a meeting with a group of businessmen after speaking before the country’s major business organizations, the President clarified her position on the legislated wage increase being asked by labor groups in light of the price increases brought about by the expanded value-added tax, Trade Secretary Peter Favila said.

Favila said the President did not endorse a legislated wage increase but instead asked Congress to ensure that all businesses fully complied with the average 8-percent increase in wages granted by the regional wage boards (RWBs) in July.

Labor groups have been calling for an adjustment of at least P125 in the minimum wages.

Asked if Ms Arroyo was backtracking from her earlier stand, Favila said: “It was just a case of miscommunication.”
Bahhh! Ka klaro adtong iyang gi-ingon nga pa increasan ang wages unya karun miscommunication na sad? BAKAK NA SAD!

Anyway either Gloria stated it for pa pogi points with labor or it only shows her lack of political will to ensure the welfare of the workers.

Hadlok man si GMA sa businessmen nga withdraw support so ang gi sakripisyo ang mga mamumuo.

Inutile nga peke nga Presidente. Gulaton lang sa militar ug businessmen.

hey! they're not gonna cancel the consti but AMEND it. a law once passed can NEVER be abolished, changed yeah! that's why charter change.
what can we do..but to give this new tax measure a chance. as if you can do something about it.
im poor, fyi, but im not always complaining what this government, call it stupid and i agree with you, is doing to "save" our nation. and that is what i think i can best contribute as a citizen of this weakening country.

sakit bitaw ang epekto sa evat but wala naman tay mahimo ana.
i personally feel its effects coz im a minimum wage earner, too.
but if you had only read the papers or watched the news you should have seen some positive effects of this evat.
we have to take this "bitter pill" if it really cures our ailing economy.

we can do somothing about it.. cardinal vidal is starting it.. signature campign against the evat.. that means pwede i.abolish ang e.vat.. u cant cure the econmy by e.vat.. you just dont tax the people coz the country needs it.. u think the collection will help the country a bit but more of that money goes to the pockets of the corrupt politcians.. the best way to help the country is to stop the corrupt politicians and shut the mouths of the oppostion.. lessen the pork barrel of the congress.. i havnt seen the positive side of e.vat.. sooner or later another transport increase.. everything will raise.. and every filipino will suffer.. oh except for the people in the gov't..

EVAT should have been for those things which are considered luxurious. if the gov't want to squeeze juice from the people, it should be from the rich. cigarettes and liquor should have higher taxes. in other countries like europe, if you happen to own luxurious stuffs you will pay double for the tax. wealthy people don't care much about luxury tax.
