For me, if the mother permits, I'd rather not let my kid undergo baptism when they still dont understand what it really is about.

If they grow up and gave enough thought about religion, and then somehow decide on one, then why not...I'd let him/her be.

If you truly believe that what your religion taught you makes you a good person then why not, as a responsible parent, introduce your child to that religion which you believe would also guide him to be a better person someday. And if he reaches adulthood and decides to remain then well and good and if he goes to another religion then maybe he has seen something in that religion that suits him and be happy with it.
