    Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 provides computer administrators more latitude in restricting users' access to various features in the program. Each of the following values is of type DWORD. To turn on the value, set it to 1. To turn off the value, set it zero (0).

    Note You can use Group Policy or the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) to apply most of these settings. When you apply most of these settings, a restart of Internet Explorer is required for the changes to take effect.

    Restriction values in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Int ernet Explorer\Restrictions and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Restrictions registry keys

    The following restriction values reside in either of these registry keys: •HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\In ternet Explorer\Restrictions•HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\P olicies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\RestrictionsWhen a computer administrator restricts menu commands by implementing the appropriate registry value, users may receive the following error message if they try to use the menu commands: The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
    •NoFileOpen: Turns off the Open command on the File menu.•NoFileNew: Turns off the New command on the File menu.•NoBrowserOptions: Turns off the Internet Options command on the Tools menu.•NoSelectDownloadDir: Turns off Save on the File Download dialog box.•NoBrowserClose: Turns off Close button, located in the upper right corner of the window or dialog box. This registry value also turns off the Close command on the File menu.The following registry values remove the associated menu when the appropriate registry key and value is implemented: •NoBrowserSaveAs: Removes the Save As command on the File menu.•NoFavorites: Removes Favorites menu and disables the Favorites bar.•NoHelpItemTipOfTheDay: Removes the Tip of the Day command on the Help menu.•NoHelpItemNetscapeHelp: Removes the For Netscape Users command on the Help menu.•NoHelpItemTutorial: Removes the Internet Explorer Tutorial command on the Help menu.•NoHelpItemSendFeedback: Removes the Send Feedback command on the Help menu.•NoPrinting: Removes Print command on the File menu. •No_LaunchMediaBar: Removes the Media Bar command on the toolbar when the user plays online content.The following menus are disabled when the appropriate registry key and value is added: •NoTheaterMode: Disables F11 key (full-screen mode).•NoBrowserContextMenu: Disables the right-click shortcut menu on a Web page.•NoFindFiles: Turns the F3 command and the Search bar.•NoViewSource: Turns off the Source command on the View menu. However, to completely disable user's ability to view the source, the NoBrowserContextMenu value must be added.•NoOpeninNewWnd: Turns off the CTRL+N command and the Open command to open a new window. •AlwaysPromptWhenDownload: Makes the Always ask before opening this type of file check box on the on the Safe Open File dialog box unavailable so that it is always selected.

    Note This value does not apply to any file that is determined to be unsafe.

    The following toolbar restriction values reside in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Int ernet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions


    When the following menu has been restricted by using the appropriate registry DWORD value, users may receive the following error message:
    The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.


    •NoToolbarOptions: The user receives the error message when they try to click any command on the View menu except Customize and Lock the Toolbars.

    The following menus are removed when the appropriate registry DWORD value is added:
    •NoToolBar: Removes the toolbar. However you can add standard buttons on the View Toolbar menu. To completely enable this setting, you must enable the NoToolbarOptions DWORD value.•NoAddressBar: Removes the Address bar.•NoLinksBar: Removes the Link bar. The user receives the following error message when they try to click Links on the Toolbar menu: The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

    Note If the subkey does not exist, create it. To do this, follow these steps: a. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft
    b. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.c. Type Internet Explorer, and then press ENTER.d. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.e. Type Infodelivery, and then press ENTER.f. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.g. Type Restrictions, and then press ENTER.2.Right-click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions subkey, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.3.Type NoManualUpdates, and then press ENTER.4.Right-click NoManualUpdates, and then click Modify.5.In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
