one common problems encountered is when you hit by "Cannot create lock," permission errors, or authorization failures (password forgotten), cannot connect to the server because the ROOT environment variable was changed, or the worst "unable to update" wow greatt... after wholeday of work things just not able to update?

we are so happy for the project that cost cheap that can be done for couple weeks turns to be almost 2 months. well, all of us want to try that time, and CVS before wasnt that good as now...(I hope you won't get some problem looking their documentation).

Another headache with cvs is when the repository gets corrupted.

svn had solved these.

Take a look at sourceforge now. New projects are using svn as the versioning system.

eclipse supports a lot of version control system. in terms of GUI for version control, i really like what eclipse offers.

our company is using both cvs and svn in eclipse.

Mercurial and Git. Mao2x ra sila features, pero mas simple ug walay hassle ang Mercurial. Ang Git kay daghan kaayo required dependencies, samtang ang Mercurial kay Python ra kailangan.

If on budget you can use CVS or SVN. There are also a lot of plugins out there where your IDE can integrate to these source control apps.

If you have the $$$, i recommend the Microsoft Team Foundation Server. Been using it for two years now and so far I am impressed with its features.

Bottomline, it really depends on your company's budget. TFS, SVN, CSV are more than capable to cater to your code repository needs. Each can perform auto builds, deployment, continuous integrations, blah blah blah....

Use svn. Its lightweight and easy to use.
