He/She knows you love reading --

    - The Audacity of Hope
    - Beatrix Potter's books for children (my childhood books)
    - That Neil Armstrong biography book my boyfriend has so I can discuss with my Muslim friend whether or not it's true Neil Armstrong converted to Islam after his trip to the moon. I want to point phrases in the book to him and say "see? see?"

Any Haruki Murakami books would be a good gift for readers of any kind

really? a slight OT here: If you can recommend 1 Murakami book for someone who hasn't read him/her before, which book would that be?

    backgrounder:
I read these authors, Chuck Palahniuk, Jodi Picoult & Milan Kundera to name a few.

Kafka On The Shore, Sputnik Sweetheart or one of his more popular books, Norwegian Wood. But if you were able to keep up with Unbearable Lightness of Being (which i gather you did and loved it) then, you would enjoy Murakami too. Methinks.

You can give him a test drive by reading his collection of short stories: Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman. I recommend that, by the way.
