I guess my point of view is kind of part Darwin\'s Theory by Natural Selection and part Intelligent Design since I think God could have given his living creations the capacity to evolve.
As for me, Darwin\'s theories on microevolution-- evolution resulting from a succession of relatively small genetic variations that often cause the formation of new subspecies --may indeed be valid, but his theories on macroevolution I find to be full of flaws.

I would agree with you, Yen, that God indeed gave his living creatures the capacity to evolve...within a specie and not in the creation of another, altogether different specie.

That would refute the theory, bro, because no matter where they hide, the temperature would be the same. Probably dinosaurs were killed by the ice age but they did not exist at the same time as humans. Or if humans did, they were in an entirely different continent which was not directly affected by the ice age. Whatever, it\'s all theory.
I think temperature would not be the same at any given location in the Earth-- as you well know, the more you approach the core of the earth, the hotter the temperature will be. That the size of these reptiles afford them the means to hide ideally under the soil is a plausible reason for their continued survival to this day and age.

However, I am a bit unsure as to the advantages of coldblooded creatures over warmblooded ones in surviving the Ice Age. Can you cite some sources for this hypothesis, zengatsu?

Trickyboy, be reminded that the word \"dinosaur\" was coined by anatomist Sir Richard Owen only in 1842-- that\'s still less than 200 years. The Bible, even English translation, have been around far longer than that.

Of course, when God created ex nihilo \"the beasts of the earth\", the creatures Owen referred to as \"dinosaurs\" were among them.

Creatures that remind us (disturbingly for others) of dinosaurs are indeed mentioned in the Bible-- Behemoth and Leviathan. Consider how Job 40:17 described Behemoth as moving \"his tail like a cedar\". A cedar tree, as you may know, can grow from 132 to 164 feet (occassionally 197 feet). Imagine the creature with a tail that long, does that remind you of anything Owen may have coined in 1842? Consider too how Job 41:7 doubted whether Leviathan\'s skin could be placed inside \"nets\" or his head inside \"cabins of fishes\", pretty big huge creature, would you say (And in case, you think its a whale, Isaiah 27:1 seems to disagree)? Did these creatures really exists? Why did the inspired writers of the Old Testament used metaphors of creatures resembling these if they didn\'t exists?

Yes, I believe that everything in the creation accounts in Genesis, properly interpreted and understood and within the boundaries of the infallible teachings of the Church on these matters, did happen.

    Shalom.

I'm not even sure what macroevolution is exactly.Â* =)

About species separation - correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression you disagree with the idea of - for example - human beings evolving from another species.Â* Is my impression correct?

As for me... hmm... I find it hard to be concerned about it.Â* I guess it's because I think God conjured us all up from star dust.Â* ^^

Yes, your impression is correct. In fact, your impression is what I would call an example of macroevolution, which you termed as species separation (that I think is valid too).

Heh. =) At least I find it not impossible to picture atoms in my head. Now, those subatomic particles (quarks, leptons, etc.)... I still can't imagine them.
