    Why use helicopters when attacking rebel camps.. Why buy Apache or Mil 24 Hind, they dont have the firepower that can destroy fortified targets, let the air force have the AC-130 Gunship, has an armament ranging from 20 mm Gatling guns to 105 mm howitzers. Tan awun nato di mahurot and rebelde ani sa usa ka agi..

    These heavily-armed aircraft incorporate side-firing weapons integrated with sophisticated sensors, navigation and fire control systems to provide precision firepower or area-saturation fire with its varied armament. The AC-130 can spend long periods flying over their target area at night and in adverse weather. The sensor suite consists of a television sensor, infrared sensor, and radar. These sensors allow the gunship to visually or electronically identify friendly ground forces and targets in most weather conditions.

    AC-130U "Spooky" Gunship

    * 1× 25 mm (0.984 in) 5-Barrel GAU-12/U Equalizer gatling gun
    * 1× 40 mm L60 Bofors cannon
    * 1× 105 mm (4.13 in) M102 howitzer

    ^i think..

    the C130 costs a lot if it is destroyed.. it is heavily armored mostly on the flooring.. if the engines are hit.. 200M php gone.. also accuracy is poor if the target is a rebel camp the size of fuente osmena circle, plus 20 rebels and the cost is 250thou worth of firepower?

    they serve best as transporters and its firepower is for its own defense..

    Hmmm can MILF or NPA have the capability to shoot down C-130? With what? Even you can hit one or two engines of a C-130 it can fly home with its two engines.. Even the Taliban or Iraqis which is better equip compare to MILF have no success it shooting down the C130 gunship..

    Are you sure with its accuracy? try to watch you tube, C-130 Gunship in action, it can hit a running vehicle or a sniper in a roof..

    Yeah rigth...AC-130 is a cool toy but it can cause collateral damage which is exactly what we want to avoid. The A-10 can do that same amount of damage at a lesser cost. Just leave the artilley to the howitzers.

    The type of terrain in the Philippines means we need VTOL aircraft more than the standards. Harriers are not old irons coz they have variants like the BAE Harrier II. I bet soon there will be CV-22 attack versions. These are what we need.

    -engines can be damaged even with the m1 garand during low pass.. although highly improbable during an assault bec it would be pointless if not to use its advantage w/c is distance.. point is, its not invincible.. Also, it can indeed fly home with two engines, still the damage is impractical..

    with its accuracy, as i've watched in youtube.. yes it hits its targets.. but also sprayed its firepower all over.. but then that was the desert, i dont think it could work in the jungle unless its mission is total annihilation not taking into consideration for any of would be casualties..

    MILF and NPA camps are in the mountain, so collateral damage is not a problem. And according to FAS: The AC-130 is an excellent fire support platform with outstanding capabilities. With its extremely accurate fire control system, the AC-130 can place 105mm, 40mm and 25mm munitions on target with first round accuracy. The crew of these aircraft are extremely proficient working in military operations in urban terrain [MOUT] environments.

    A-10 is good also, but A-10 is commonly use as tank busters, it can help the infantry as an air support for a short period of time, but a AC-130 Gunship can stay in the air for a long period of time giving close air support for a long time.

    Howitzers need spotters, so they can give the exact location of the target, while AC-130 gunship dont need them, it can see its enemy even with vegetation cover because of its high resolution sensors (All Light Level Television (ALLTV) and infrared detection set.

    You're basically under the assumption that no civilians live in Philippine mountains.

    Jungle is not a problem, its been use during Vietnam conflict, FAS: During Vietnam, gunships destroyed more than 10,000 trucks and were credited with many life-saving close air support missions. AC-130s suppressed enemy air defense systems and attacked ground forces during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada.

    Hitting it with an M1 Garand? Maybe you can tell that to the afghans or iraqis who been trying to hit the AC-130 Gunship, maybe they can try your suggestion, and they can tell you if it works..
