In my opinion most musicians really go through the showband thing, most experience musicians have tried playing in a showband since it caters a variety of genre. If most of us remember the good old days during intermediate/highschool life before nga manukar lang ta ug mga barrio fiesta's kay gi invite sometimes free of charge or libre pakals or joined band competitions in schools and local festivities then later pag college or after college disbanded na and you see yourself playing in a showband coz you realize playing and enjoying your craft at the same time earning money....some of the young folks that are discriminating showbands haven't yet reached that turning point....I'm not saying all goes with the same path..some do not end up doing music and some continue to play his own choice of music....coz if you learn to play in a showband then go back to your own music genre you will realize that mas tight or hugot gyud ang imo tinukaran(sakto sa tempo/breaking and accurate imo ears while listening) bisan unsa pa nga music(gabas2x,metal,etc....)

My point is just showbands do their thing because it is more marketable and for all types of people....

Just try to visit Papa's Roast Grill and Restobar at V. Rama during Fridays or Saturdays then watch Alex and the MIX.Com band formerly Music Nuts kadtong didto pa sila sa Cities sa Mango if you want to listen to quality showband/variety entertainment....I'm not sure if their back to back band The Deep waters band is still playing superb sab kaayo manukar, I think ila drummer was Tata Umapas(kadtong naay old jam studio sa Sikatuna before)its like listening to the original track except much more live ang sound. Also the original Firelights if they are still playing around kadto gyud ang mga karaan its like listening to Class A music gyud...

    my 2 cents.....
