hub is a shared segment, which means that a pc can transmit one at a time. a switch allows a pair of pc's to transmit traffic concurrently with other pair of pc's attached to it.

so in short, hub cannot prevent collisions whereas a switch prevents it and allows you for maximum throughput.

buy lang data-link switch router nana sya. if switch/hub you need internet sharing or proxy server..

in lay man's terms mao ni difference:
kung hub imo gamit sa LAN..unsa packet mo agi niya.. iya i broadcast sa tanan connected sa hub until maka receive ug reply sa sakto nga PC... murag attendant sa pizza parlor nga walay mga numbers nga sigi lang syagit sa pangalan hangtod naay mo claim sa order. whereas ang switch is intelligent.. it knows exactly where to send the data packets.. like kung order ka sa fast food.. naa kay number para kabalo sila asa diretso ihatag ang orders.

Guys, para madali. A switch ija-ija, aho-aho den ang hub is sharing. in speed mas kusog ang switch compare sa hub because the hub will divide the actual bandwidth with the number of computer you are using while switch will not. Switch is like a bridge! I recommend you use switch!!! then use straight through connection on the UTP.
