How much video memory do you have? I suspect you have a "shared" memory with the system board. Playing DVD with marginal video memory really isn't fun. In addition, if you have less than 254 system memory, the DVD playback, and its software based decoding, is really going to eat up your resources. Try stopping all other programs when you play your DVD.
