i think love is one of the most unexplainable and mysterious things in this world. in my case, love came by chance... at a time when i swore not to love deeply again because i was recently burned and utterly devastated by love. after much deliberations, i made a choice to give love another try.

the chance i took and the choice i made gave me the happiness and fulfillment i feel now with my one true love.

It is both. Being IN LOVE is mostly chance, and LOVING someone is mostly choice.

When you meet someone that you are really attracted to, it triggers the release of dopamine deep in the areas of your brain. This is the same area that cocaine targets to give a person that sense of euphoria. Also, it triggers the release of phenylethylamine (PEA), the same chemical found in chocolate, and this speeds up the interconnection between nerve cells. When you fall in love, you literally feel "high", you're flushed, your heart beats faster...these are due to the raised levels of dopamine and PEA in your system. Also, kung in lab ang usa ka tawo, the level of serotonin in your brain decreases, making you more prone to obsessions and compulsions. Added to this is the hyperactivity that happens in the brain's anterior cingulate gyrus, which results to "stuck" behavior. And that is why, when you fall in love with someone, that person is all you could think about all day and all night.

After a while, you notice that the person you fell in love with doesn't give you that "high" anymore, like he/she did during the early stages of your relationship. That is because, over time, the levels of dopamine and PEA slowly decline...and this is where LOVE comes in. If you can envision a future with that person, you COMMIT to them even without the "high" of early love. Other people break up because they are constantly looking for the next person to fall in love with, to get that next "high".
