The Purpose of this Online Guide

Have you ever wondered where chocolate comes from, if antibacterial soap is good for your family, or how to recycle an old computer? If you've had these or other questions about the environmental and social impacts of the products you buy and use, Good Stuff is for you. It contains many of the tips, facts, and links you'll need to start making more informed purchases that benefit your health and the environment."

New Guide Helps Consumers Make Wise Buys
by Worldwatch Institute on March 31, 2004
"Washington, D.C.— Paper or plastic bags? Bottled or tap water? Making environmentally responsible purchases can be a daunting goal. Fortunately, concerned consumers can now find answers to many of their questions in Good Stuff? A Behind-the-Scenes Guide to the Things We Buy, a free online publication released today by the Worldwatch Institute.
Produced in partnership with nine organizations as a hands-on companion to Worldwatch’s annual State of the World report, Good Stuff traces what goes into the production, use, and disposal of 25 common consumer items, including compact discs, cell phones, baby goods, and chocolate. In addition to educating buyers about the environmental and social impacts of their purchases, the guide includes practical suggestions for living a “greener,” healthier life."

    Sir/Madame;

Please review first the data and facts about something before you lean for it. The Al Gore movie is full of misinformations and faults that it is not what you believe it is. That movie is good for awareness but it is nowhere near the truth.

I am for green earth or clean earth, however you call it, but I am not in favor how they sell the lies about the cause of the global warming. If you do your own research about the possible causes of global warming, you will surely know that although human activity is possibly one of the cause but certainly it is not the only. And contrary to all the hoopla about global warming, all of these are only for political and marketing strategies.

Doesn't the other side lie too?

Everyone lies. Why? Because everyone has his/her own agenda. Ergo, you can only believe in yourself, why? Because surely, you believe in your own agenda. Unless you also lie to yourself

Everyone lies but all for different reason. For the case in subject, there are two sides of the equation: the political and scientific.

In politics lying is the way of life. The most effective tool in politics is the appeal to fear (argumentum ad bacculum) which is inate to any human. This is where the bandwagon of global warming is riding.

In Science there are theories and hypothesis. Presenting credible data is the way of life. It will be foolish for a scientist to falsify data because in the scientific community before your data are accepted as fact, other competent colleagues must be able to be re-generated it.

Al Gore is no scientist, he is a politician. The fact of the latter should have told any viewer of his movie to review the facts.

I've seen the movie and reviewed the facts. I've also seen the "anti-Inconvenient-Truth" movie called "The Great Global Warming Swindle", and also reviewed the facts. And my conclusion is, it's like watching two kids fighting over candy--both sides have agendas.

As an amateur astronomer, I am capable enough to sift through the agendas and assess what's going on--I'm on nobody's "side" here, but I do know the earth as a planet is in trouble, and part of that trouble has something to do with humanity's incessant desire for MORE of everything. Enough said.

first of all I respect this save this movement... BUT i have to tell you people... it should be renamed as:

SAVE THE HUMANS .. not EARTH DAY / SAVE THE PLANET B.S.

... the planet is fine! the planet is doing great... and if we continue doing our stuff, the planet isnt going away... WE ARE, WE HUMANS!... the planet will still be here long after were gone...

as George Carlin said... the planet has already been to a lot worst than us (humans)... earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drifts, solar flares, sunspots, magnetic storms, magnetic reversal of the poles, hundred and thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteriods, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages.... AND YOU THINK A PlASTIC BAG AND SOME ALUMINUM CANS ARE A THREAT TO THE PLANET?... whahaa... thats a classic!

ok heres the full link... watch it and open your mind and know the difference between... saving the planet and saving ourselves...

YouTube - George Carlin - Saving The Planet

... and i agree with him, were too arrogant if we claim to save the planet and we havent learned yet to live and care among ourselves... have fun viewing! .. I DID....
