The God of Judaism? Perhaps one of the millions of the gods of the Hindus?" But he wrote it as a Christian. Why apply the wager to other religions when he was speaking as a Christian? I think he was not trying to argue which "god" is the God (He has already reached his conclusion); I think he was simply arguing that it makes sense to believe in a God, and he points to the Christian God.
he points to the christian god for no apparent reason, not even probability. plainly coz that's his belief. very biased approach. hehehe one of its major flaw.

I don't think I have any argument with you there bro. Of course, all of us are capable of doing good deeds.
i know, the fundamentally inclined may say otherwise. hehe

Like kinsa nga mga tao? Yes, there are bad people within the Christian faith as well as outside.
dont get me wrong, sh!theads are sh!theads....both camps have them, god or no god.
its just silly to hear self righteous people blabber holy words...on the other hand doing dirty deeds.
    ...using "god" as an excuse.

Yes, I agree, even within Christianity there are disagreements, but I don't think it's anything substantial. I mean, for Catholics and Protestants at least, they believe in a Triune God di ba? They believe that Jesus is God incarnate. They believe in his life, death and resurrection. They believe in the credibility of the Gospel accounts.
uhhh, not all christian sects/denominations believe in the trinity...bibledude doesn't.hehehe
i leave that to you guys to settle it amongst yourselves.hehehe

I don't see how this is relevant to what I've said. You brought up the idea that God is a "self-centered ego maniac." And I responded that he's not. So what are you saying?
    nahh, i said IF...thats me assuming.hehehe
what i just described was far off than JUST.
who am I to know what this god is thinking or up to...

Yeah, mura'g dili bitaw noble kaayo imo motive if mao ra na imo reason nga mutuo ka Ginoo kay mas makadaug ka kung mupusta ka niya hehe... But di ba Pascal lived in a time of great scepticism? People did not have confidence that they can rely on reason to bring them to a knowledge of God, so Pascal wrote that if they cannot depend on reason, then the more practical thing would be to "bet" na lang that he exists. Mura'g ingun ana, kay sceptical man kaayo mga tao, so for practicality reasons na lang.
yeps, that wager wreaks of cowardice and selfishness.
    practicality...dont know about that.

Free will is not an illusion. We can choose to do evil, but that would ironically make us less free. True freedom lies in doing what is good, I believe
will on its own is already free.
thats just an oxy***** to me.hehe
if your god knows everything...with its omnimaxness, what you have is just an illusion of "free will".

can't you see it? the whole point?
Can I make a brief comment on this, if you don't mind?

-- In all honesty, it's not conditioning or concept... it's the belief of nothingness. I would probably agree on you if you say "it's about logical understanding that their is/was no god...".

Even though we don't really have something to disagree upon.

i wasn't really referring to the concept of god. i was referring to the concept of something/someone superior. If you know what i mean.
    symbiotic.

And still i think it has something to do with conditioning the mind. Since society has instilled in us a lot of understandings of how the world goes, and a lot of people will have a hard time grasping this and letting all their previous understandings go.

Salamat for the clarification. The whole thing about "concept" of something/someone is directly conceived or intuited object of thought thus generalizing all ideas that "we" truly know that there is god. I would however opposed that "concept" because in the first place, people were "exercised" (to be blunt, brainwashing) to believe that there is a supernatural being.

    Btw, thanks again, grovestreet.

Have you ever tried to search the truth and proved that there was really God before concluding
that there never was, or you are just proving yourself and insisting because you just don't want to
believe. It would be fair if you seek knowledge of proving that there was really a god and then
if your not convinced try to prove also that there was no god. Your idea of disbelief is still unclear.
Seems you are just contented with the idea that "absence of evidence is enough not to accept any idea" the question is, are your evidences are enuf to prove the absence? basin kuwang ra kaayo
ug basin babaw ra kaayo ang inyo nahibaw an nganong dali ra kaayo mo ni prove nga wla jud exist.

If you ask me to prove His existence, I would say to you I did! And I wont be entertaining any idea
disapproving of wat I know is the truth...If you want to believe that way then, it's yours too because
you have proved mn jud ka ha? Your knowledge is just a pinch of a sand of the desert... LOL

I would be happy someday to live beside OUR GOD(to believers only) because we believe in life after death, and the life of 100 years on earth is too short. So enjoy your less thant a hundred years of
    atheism...

the belief of the afterlife is what stops you from focusing on what truly is important, and that is NOW, and it always has been. You are so used in believing that there will be a "heaven" waiting out there for us when we die, that somehow your consciousness will be willing to accept the norms of society today, coz you think "hey, even if that family is poor in this life, i know there will be a heaven waiting for them in the next life." It would stop you from doing something about it.

i hope i'm making sense here. I'm trying my best to write in english even though i'm not yet good at it. this is good practice hehe.
but i'm just trying to prove a point. that's the beauty of freedom, you yourself have
the choice in how you live your life.

    love and peace.
