Default EA kills 'Tiberium,' says misses quality standards

source: EA kills 'Tiberium,' says misses quality standards - Yahoo! News

For fans of the Electronic Arts franchise Command and Conquer looking forward to the spinoff game, Tiberium, I'm afraid I have some bad news.

According to a story in Wednesday's Wall Street Journal, EA has decided to shutter production of the new first-person shooter, citing quality issues.
Tiberium was "not on track to meet the high quality standards" EA sets for its games, a spokesperson told the Journal. "A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market."
The Journal article calls the move a setback for EA, saying the company "has been working to turn itself around under (CEO) John Riccitiello (who) has made moves to help boost the game publisher's growth and lower development costs that have contributed to six straight quarters of loss."
But to me, I think it's a good move by EA to yank the cord on games it sees as sub-standard. To be sure, it would have been better for the company to have Tiberium be a big commercial hit; short of that, however, it shows a bit of maturity on the part of management to make the decision to cut short development of sub-standard games that would, in the end, water down its brand.
And that's because one of the reasons the company has seen quarterly losses piling up is a sense in the marketplace that its games have stagnated a bit. Of course, it has its regular stable of big hits like Madden football and FIFA soccer, and new games like Spore. But one big criticism of the company over the last few years is that it has relied too much on low-quality franchise games that have ceased to get the faithful worked up.
In a recent interview, EA Games label president Frank Gibeau told me that, "We (had) lost faith with our customers because we were churning out games that might have made sense from a financial standpoint, but frankly we had walked away from the art of making games and offering breakthrough creative experiences. There weren't as many games in our lineup that I wanted to play anymore."
Tiberium was a new game, but it was a spinoff of the Command and Conquer series, and so I suspect that the quality bar for it was very high. So I think it's good to see EA realize that it's better to lose a year's worth of development time than to keep throwing good money after bad, especially on a game that was not an entirely new experience.
Hopefully, the design team behind the game can now put their energies and efforts to work on something new that will excite them, the company as a whole, and the market down the line.

This is how they deal with quality.
Pero pila pud kha ila nagasto ato.

wow... I didn't even know there's a first person shooter in the Tiberium series... This would've been great but I guess they made the right decision 'cause they always put quality first in their games, like Crysis and all great games that they have been releasing...

Supposedly ang SC:Ghost kay for gamecube, PS2, Xbox man unta. Gi-pasapasa ang development ana niya from Nihilistic Studios to Swingin' Ape Studios. Here ang details sa game: StarCraft: Ghost - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As for sa tiberium, maau ra pud, bati kaau to ang C&C Renegade, mura rag ug generic FPS.

Don't lie. Crytek made crysis. only that EA did the marketing.

And EA sucks in terms of giving support to their customers. EA Builds something good at first but they ruin in later. Look what happened to C&C Generals, few patches later and it ruined multiplayer. although bisag ruined na, daghan gihapon ang nagduwa kay nag-hope sila na maayo pa. pero wala man gyud.

Did you know? That EA actually has the worst copy protection system ever? their protection which is DMA, has got to be the biggest letdowns of their to-be-ruined-later good games. i-google ang issues regarding sa DMA sa EA, you will know what i mean. (P.S. this DMA stuff im talking about applies to you only if you have a original copy of their games. TBH, the original copy works worse than a pirated version.)

to be honest, renegade was good at that time. it has a good multiplayer and if you dont know, daghan kaayong nagduwa sa online servers sa renegade when it was a hit back then. up to today naa pa man ganiy nag-duwa sa online ana. lets just say renegade is 1/4 of cs 1.3 these days. dont say it sucks, well maybe for you it sucks but for the majority it was good. i even finished the game 10 times in a row in the hardest difficulty and gameplay never gets old.

i guess ang gibati-an nimo is ang storyline. actually, what you dont know is that ang storyline kay ni-take place sa C&C Tiberian Dawn(the older tiberian game back in 1995). at first mao na akong bad impressions sa game because i was expecting na ang storyline kay naka-tag along sa tiberian sun. but i was wrong.

/Thread - Good for EA to stop its development. Looking at its gameplay videos, i say the graphics is good. pero looking at the wobbly hands sa game, it sucks.

Honestly the headline should have read...

EA kills itself, says 'totally misses the whole point of gaming'

I never understood why people hated EA before, but now I do...

    - Intrusive DRM
    - Piss-poor game servers, which they shut down after a few months?
    - Dodgy patches (how many patches did it take for BF2 to be stable? Oh what's that? None?)
    - 10 million game sequels which are pretty much the same?
    - Poor customer support

It came as a surprise to me why they canceled this game. They should've released it anyway. They're good at that; polishing a turd, marketing it, and coming up with 10 different versions of the same turd.
