Nindota tan-awon oi...
@ ODING thanks !
Curios lang gud ko , susama sa mga CICHLIDS pod na labawng territorial and aggressive , ipon man sila sa 1 ka tangke basta of the same specie and where they came from when you go to petshops di ba . Ngano ang BETTA FISHES gipang garapon na man sila prior to selling and being displayed . Mao lang na ako dili masabtan .
Tnx for the link though ... it gave me an insight but havnt satisfied my curiosity . All I can assume if that statement is documented , wala na cguro WILD BETTAS karon or a small numbers exist in the wild if thats the case . Most BETTAS would be the BETTAS out of BREEDING or CAPTIVE BETTAS .
Why do bettas fight?
Hey, I fooled you. Did you really think I had the answer to that one? Of course not. When Animal Planet interviewed me, they too tried to make me spill the beans, but I had made a solemn promise to my bettas that I would never ever tell anyone (unless they knew the secret betta handshake, that is LOL)... How bettas survive in the wild is also a puzzle, knowing how unsociable they are. How do they share a small pond? I assume there is a lot more places to hide in the wild and that bettas avoid each other like the plague but I might be wrong. After all, I heard a researcher took two male bettas and went to the middle of a large lake. There he released them. Having all the space in the world, what did they do? They proceeded to flare at each other and fight. Go figure. I concluded that fighting is not linked to territoriality when it comes to betta. More like a nasty bad habit. Or maybe an addiction?

It would be suitable and humane to place them on their own display tanks of at least a gallon or better yet, a standard 2.5 gallon for the males since you can place your females together in a community tank...
Placing them on jars and cups are a travesty! It does not do justice to their magnanimous and unfathomable beauty! Plus, they are just soooo damn interesting to be placed on cups for chrissake!^^
As what Sir Oding said, Bettas are highly territorial...
With the recent mutations today, it would be best to isolate them since their gorgeous fins would be easily damaged on a community tank especially for the Prima Dona Halfmoons...
Hey you can place their tanks side by side so that they can flare at each other and card (block their view) after 30 mins twice a day so they can exercise and establish a pecking order in your barracks...
Their mating ritual is S & M Erotica and once you get the chance to observe a spawn then you're hooked!
Letting a female float in a transparent cup on their tanks twice a day would also do wonders for their machismo and would make them really horny...^^
Their natural habitat are the murky, oxygen-depleted, shallow rice paddies of Thailand... In fact the whole damn country is addicted to Bettas!^^
