i have no clue about this stuff... but me likes it. And if it were to destroy the planet.. i'd be like totally proud knowing swiss people were responsible for it hahaha

LOL, yah. The Young Earth Theory has long been dismissed by the scientific community to be nothing but wild imaginings of some christian fundamentalists who have not sobered up

I am for certain that life will still go on for most of us but for those who otherwise see it as an ungodly discovery, i am also for certain that they rather choose to stay inebriated by their religiosity than submit to the insurmountable fact about our origins.

Read between the lines. That just simply means they are up to creating some form of intelligence using the God particle called the Higg's Boson.

To ordinary people like us, the effort may appear too expensive for such scientific inquiry and for such small a thing (in fact much much smaller than one hydrogen atom). But the research offers myriads of possibilities (other than unifying disparate theories on elementary particles) about how particle physics can serve to advance our understanding not only about the universe's origin but also in other important fields such as energy, nuclear medicine and high speed computing.

And talk about high-speed computing, the LHC is going to be leveraged as a model for the next generation internet which is said to be 10,000 times faster than current standards. Universities from all over the world are reportedly going to be among the first beneficiaries of this nearly "light-speed" internet. So I think the effort/money is not at all really wasted.

And yes it is also possible NOT TO FIND the Higgs boson ("God's particle") at all. I saw on BBC yesterday, Stephen Hawking (a world-renowned physicist in Britain) even challenged colleagues that the Higgs boson is "elusive" and they may not be able to find it. While many physicists agree it is possible that the Higg's may not be found as yet (especially in the first few runs) but they are confident that they are going to find it anyway.
