JDV’s solution to oil crisis: Tap money makers
HOUSE Speaker Jose de Venecia proposed on Sunday that oil-producing nations which have amassed huge profits in the wake of unprecedented increases in the price of oil plow this money back as investments and long-term, low-interest loans to developing nations in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
As crude oil prices breached $67 a barrel in New York last Friday, De Venecia called on the Arab-led Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to recycle their petrodollars and extraordinary windfall profits as major equity investments and long-term low-interest loans to developing nations.
The proposal is part of a four-point plan that also includes a call for an urgent oil summit of leaders of ASEAN plus 3 (China, Japan and South Korea), a summit of the powerful G-8 countries, or a direct meeting of oil-producing and oil-consuming nations.
"We must respond urgently because oil prices are spinning out of control, causing grievous economic damage with the greatest prejudice to the 100 highly-indebted middle-income nations and to the poorest states," De Venecia said.
The Speaker said he will ask President Arroyo to initiate the holding of an oil summit among ASEAN leaders, as Malacañang for the first time ordered new energy conservation measures in all offices across the country as a matter of national survival.
He said compressed natural gas, ethanol and alternative sources of energy "should be prioritized by the Philippines now instead of the poisonous exchanges and destructive politics."
De Venecia also suggested that US President George W. Bush and the heads of the G-8 countries meet or organize a summit of oil-producing and oil-consuming nations as oil prices continued to soar, fueled by massive global demand led by China, India and the US itself.
De Venecia said the recycling of Arab petrodollars should be "in the form of equity investments and long-term-interest loans so as not to further aggravate global external debt, which would result in the destruction of the global anti-poverty campaign."
He warned against a repeat of the 1970s and 1980s when developing nations were encouraged to avail themselves of Arab petrodollars in short-term loans that resulted in debt-saddled nations calling for debt repudiation and moratorium after the loans fell due.
Solution:
Ban all motor vehichles.
Moved near to your workplace. Ibaligya imong balay tolstoi ug pagbalay sa Cebu.
Use the Internet to process anything. Pay bills, Apply permit, Work at home, Home schooling by Web or cable or TV transmission.
Or increase the price of all Services. Demand wage increase..!
Look at the salaries, prices in USA and UK as you guidelines of what you should be making for any Professional services.
Start raising your prices now to offset the rising cost due to corruption and gas price increase.
^^nahhh...your solution still has a minimal impact on fuel prices..that's viable only if all motor vehicles are for personal use/service...what will happen to those container vans who are delivering commodities from market to market?..mubalik sila'g gamit sa kabao ug balsa para pag deliver sa goods?
Or.. raise everyone's wages?
^^and.....more businesses will shut down and more factories will transfer to China..
for me the long term solution is to use alternative fuel energy and not depend solely on petruleum products..alternative fuels like ethanol, natural gas, propane, hydrogen, biodiesel should be widely use in order to compete with the petruleum fuels and hopefully bringing down its price.
Price will increase. It will never go down.
This week expect another 50 cent petrol increase will be made and the week thereafter.
