The above statement is a classic case of technology being a hindrance (to a person) rather than a blessing.
Going back to the topic at hand, the thread-started asked "Can you imagine..." and I say, I don't need to. I'm 36 years old--I spent over 20 years of my life not using the internet, and my life was more or less fairly well and good. Right now, I'm involved in a business/industry that requires the existence of the internet, so naturally one might think I would feel bad or miserable if the internet suddenly disappeared or stopped working--probably, at the start, yes, but that doesn't mean it's the end of the world for me. I am confident that someone out there will figure out a way to create something in its place...that's the way humanity has been for the past few thousand years...innovation is the hallmark of being human...and heck, if no one attempts the replacement, well, I still have my two hands and my brain--I can probably figure something out that can help me with whatever it is I need to do/accomplish finish in my lifetime.
