i wouldn't say it was fixed, dormant maybe but not fixed. the restore files were infected, yes, they stay there until you perform another restore where the files are already infected. sometimes windows, does a system restore on itself when it boots up.
if you haven't experienced it already, this message comes up when that happens 'windows has recovered from a serious error'.
do what i said, login to safe mode with networking, download and run smitfraudfix, clean all the infection it finds. disable startup items through msconfig then perform a complete scan with your antivirus program in the normal mode.
