Wala bitaw kaayo exposure sa mga schools nato sa AI..
Sa manila.. I think naaman sa UP pero Robotics man ila focus..then gamay rapud kaayo
    cla...

Ang focus sa mga schools kay Java, Web programming, of course ang C ug C++.. kay mao man ang demand sa IT
industry.. wala man local employers for AI programmers or researchers

naa mi sa una sa UC-CompE ambot naa paba ni...pero ProLog lang amo gamit.

    thanks for the interestÂ*

Synopsis of research - overview sa amo company naa sa www.korns.com BUT that is not the current project .. mao ra na among commercial
app used to fund our research. Karon we are focusing on AIML (aritificial intelligence markup language) in other words.. intelligent version sa XML ..i thinkÂ*
The app we are focusing on is ALICE (http://www.alicebot.org/)Â* ...try the free live chat with alice ...Â* it soooo coolÂ*

Contribution to Project - Hmm..Â* The reason why I posted the query is to find out 1) if naa bay LISP or AI community sa Cebu 2) the people interested in
AI or LISP.Â* I know its not a popular topic. Pero ok ni cya nga field.Â* Â*Nindot kung naay interesado pud ani so we canÂ* discuss ideas or proposals. Who knows what we might come up with.Â* Â*

PS If you have time try the free live chat with alice .. murag mao c alice.. ang code bya ana kay nag rely lang sa word tagging ug pattern recognition

Unfortunately, you will probably have a (very) hard time finding an AI community here in Cebu. I've played with Eliza before, and I was amused to see how a relatively small program can interact with humans quite intelligently.

I'm looking forward to learn more about AI. Since it's very unlikely for me to be exposed in that field here in my work, I'll just read and explore on my own.

I have also played with Elize before...

Last year USC CompE had neural networks projects...Though it's not really part of the curriculum taught...

I want to venture to AI if ever I had the oppurtunity...I've been doing projects lately on image processing with some pattern recognition.
My latest programmed code was on Chain coding...
My previous one was on robotics but it also used image processing.. it was actually the thesis we made..
Luckily our thesis was presented to the Phil-American Academy Academy of Scientist and Engineers last June but were just not there to present since we are all having
    professional work now....

Most of the time I use Matlab...It already has some AI support like on neural nets..
But I wanna do it raw, wala lang jud time to start from scratch...

Maybe we can start a community here in Cebu...or maybe an on-line discussion for day-to-day basis...

I have vaguely heard of Elize.Â*

My thesis was in AI too.Â* It was about Expert Systems and Constraint Programming.
But Expert Systems are passe now.Â*

I had the chance to go to Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference
(GECCO 2005- http://isgec.org/gecco-2005/awards-paper.html) in DC.Â* Most of the papers were on Genetic Programming
and Algorithm.Â* There is a new AI technique or algorithm that is rapidly gaining
popularity in the US and Europe.Â* It's called Particle Swarm Optimization. There were less than 10 papers on Neural Nets out of around 100 papers
all in all. There were more papers on image processing with pattern recognition though.

I guess an online discussion will do.Â* You are right, it will be very hard to have an AI community.Â* The next best thing
is to have an online discussion. Maybe we can choose an AI topic to research and discuss on.Â* There is a free version of LISP I used before.Â* It's called
CLIPS. It was okay.Â* I don't know.. What doÂ* you think?

Hey! inday_opel, I believe you are in the U.S. right now...can u tell us the current trends there right now?
Are there filipino communities there working on AI related projects?
What could the AI development be in next 5 or 10 years?

I remember the Elize AI but somewhat it's really not that "intelligent" .... but it's a good software in studying AI.

    At school we use Prolog!

halloÂ* Â* sorry na busy ko kadyot.. wala ko kabisita diri.. Wala ko sa US karon.. Nako sa Cebu naka base. But I will be relocating to
Manila next month.Â* I just fly sa US mga at least 2x a year for meetings with my boss and to attend conferences. I am a
    home-based employee or a "virtual" employee.Â*

I feel I am in no position to answer some of your queries.Â* I am relatively a newbie in AI.Â* I have been working in this field for 2 years lang.
I was thinking of forwarding your questions to my boss.Â* He's been in the business for 40 years na.Â* Perhaps, after a couple of weeks, I will be
able to send your questions to my boss. Medyo busy man mi karon.Â* Â*Â* But anyway, I will give a shot at answering some of these questions
    based on my limited experience.

    Current Trends in AI :Â*
Biology-inspired AI techniques are popular and have found several real-worl applications.
This includes John Coza's Genetic Programming, Genetic Algorithm, Evolutionary Programming, Swarm Algorithms, to name a few.

AI Development in the next 5-10 Years:
According to my boss, applications in Internet Search and Gaming using AI will be big.Â* He thinks that Internet Search is the next gold mine.Â*
If anybody can find a much more effective technique than what Google is using, that is, LSI or Latent Sematic Indexing.. then that discovery is work
millions... of dollars. This process of searching the Web, involves natural languageÂ* processing with pattern discovery and pattern analysis... but that is just the tip of the iceberg. I don't have much to say on Gaming Applications, but next year, I think we will be delving into that field.. (kung wala pako nag resignÂ* ). In one conference I attended, they developed a game where online currency can actually be converted to real dollars.Â* My boss thinks that the development of AI techniques will be geared towards applications in Internet Search and Gaming.

    Filipino community in AI:
I have not encountered a Filipino in the confereces I have attended. Hmm.. wait.. I thinks I have met a Filipino-American in
SFO in one conference but it was a non-technical conference.Â* I asked my boss that question and he says that he has'nt worked with Filipinos.
Mostly, the frontrunners in AI are Americans, Europeans(Germans and Dutch) and Japanese.. Its a lonely field ...Â*especially for Filipinas like meÂ*

Hope more Filipinos would be interested in AI....
