    yeah, i mean high resolutions i played NFS Pro street by my x1950xt 256mb before at 1440x900 res, High tanan then off lang shadows and world effects.. 2mb ra mabilin or 0 somtimes. I used ati tray tool to monitor fps and video memory.

    I'm having 19" LCD at max res 1440 x 900

    newer 19" LCDs have higher resolution now

    also remember to have a good image quality on lcd's you need to put it in its native resolution or max usually

    Go for 4850 and later in the future a 4850 crossfire would be superb.
    Current drivers today for ATI seems to improve crossfire performance for as more than 100% compared to single cards.

    Even the 4850 smokes the 9800gtx so the good old Nvidia 8 series days are over.

    Guys im on a tight budget, keep it on the 7k limit. I added 9600 GT and posted the results so far:
    8800GT =1
    HD3870 =3
    9600GT =3

    Keep your votes coming!

    I'd go for 9600gt if its 512mb since your gonna use a single card solution. so if 9600gt is 512mb I think it could be faster than 8800gt 256mb.

    Thanks for the benchies, so I take it that you go for 9600GT? SLI would be best but out of the question.

    9600GT on SLI has a very low scaling in performance... its not worth it... better go for two 4850... crossfire scales better than SLI... especially with the 4850 card...

    From what I heard it seems that:
    -3870 will outperform the 9600GT without Anti Aliasing. 9600GT will pull ahead a bit with Anti Aliasing.
    -They are both about even but the 9600GT due to it being an Nvidia card will have better driver support and outperform the HD3870 in a lot of Nvidia sponsored games, Crysis included.
    -3870 matches up well with the 8800gt

    8800GT 512mb is a workhorse... You can't go wrong if you choose that or the 9600GT...

    If it fits your budget go for it..

    Personally... I'd go with everyone else here's wise opinion for you to bite the bullet and save up for the 4850.. or wait till prices of that go down....

    OR

    There's also the 4670 / 4650 coming within the month... watch out for benchmarks of those..
