“Why So Much God And Poverty?”

Hello people... I just want to share this email.. This email was coming from bro. bo sanchez.

This will be short.
I just want to ask you a question.

Last week, I had lunch with a wealthy foreigner.
How wealthy? He was earning two million dollars a month. (I’m not kidding.) He was in the Philippines visiting our smaller islands.

“So how did you like your visit?” I asked him.
“I loved it,” he said, “I have never met a more polite, more courteous, nicer people than the Filipinos.”
“Thank you,” I beamed.

But then he frowned. “Bo, I also noticed how religious Filipinos are. I saw the tricycles with signs, saying, “God loves you” and “John 3:16”. There is so much God in your country. And yet there is so much poverty.”

Ouch.
That hurt because it’s so true.
His question reminded me about my visit to Vietnam a month before—and how disturbed I felt.
There’s not much God in that country. It’s been a communist country for decades. But the economy is exploding. And according to statistics, poverty has gone down by a huge 60%! Can you believe that?

One reason: Foreign investments.
Last year, the Philippine’s foreign investments reached a measly $2.5B.
In Vietnam last year, their foreign investments reached $15B.
And do you know what happened this year? From January to July 2008, foreign investments in Vietnam already reached $33B!

Look at China. Another “godless” nation. But poverty has gone down as well. And they’re now poised to be the next Superpower of the world.

Look at Japan. Only 2% of its population is Christian. Many of them don’t even have any religion. Yet their economy has been thriving for decades.

But look at a few South American countries. Like the Philippines, there’s a lot of religion and poverty there too.

So here are my questions:

Why so much God and poverty in our country?
Does a certain brand of religion cause poverty?
Or am I missing something here?

people depend on their faith alone... they don't strive hard or
do something to reach their goals.

thinking that God will provide all they wanted without

God is so good but He wanted people to do things on the
right way at the right time..

1.)It is because we waste our money on fiestas.
Our whole year savings which we supposed to save for future needs and for emergency,
were spent on food and drinks in celebration of fiestas.
Mangungutang pa upang bonga ang handa at sobrasobra ang inuman.

2.)We waste our money on vices.
For catholics, halos lahat ng bisyo pwede.

Sigarilyo, inom, sugal, babaye,
Okey ra magsabong human og simba.
Bisan sa sulod sa simbahan manigarilyo pa.
Mosimba nga nakainom.
Mosimba kuyog ang kabit.

3.)Don't know how to manage their finances.
No savings. Do not save for their future.
No investments. Do not know how to invest their money.
Waste money on vices. Income is spent most on beer, smoke, gambling and entertainment or computer games.
Debt dependent. Utang ng utang and survives on credit and supermarket P.O.

4.)No family planning law (Unlike China). Absence of family Education or family planning programs.
With family with 6 children at the average, we pass our burden to the society
and blame the government for our problems of poverty.

5.) Laziness due to whole year perfect weather.
In other countries where there is winter, people are forced to work hard to save something for the winter.
If they fail to save for the winter, they die.

The culture of complacency and fatalism (Ginoo ra ang bahala, God's will, etc) is a signature of a Christian belief system that thrives and survives in the ordinary Filipino way of thinking. This is not to say that we are to put wholly the blame to the church but it is partly accountable why many of us today rest our hopes to faith than to self-reliance and industry.

It is not uncommon to hear priests or pastors say: "Naay laing plano ang Ginoo nimo brad", "Kabubot-on na sa kahitas-an anak," "Okay ra og daghan imong anak kay mao may gihatag sa Ginoo," "Si Lord ra ang mag-igo sis" ug uban pa...that almost every outcome of what you do is decided by God whether you like it or not. It is so easy to make a fallguy out of God to cover the failures of their church or any of their members and this is one of the reasons why many of us are passive to the real issues that we all face -- overpopulation coupled with unequal distribution of wealth; exploitation; corruption and other social ills -- because we think of these problems as divinely designed or ordained when they are in reality of our own making.

why not blame ourselves? not religion, not other filipinos? just OURSELVES..

why? because we have the power to make a big change. look how popular is Erap after what happend to his administration. why would people want to still vote him?

wer too busy minding others when we should have had done something good. always complaining
not working.
do you hear singaporeans studying to be a nurse and work for other country? look how koreans do it,
they study here because its cheap and after which they go back to korea. us? finding ways to get out of the country.

if your pissed of the system do something about it. stop complaining..
