up ko bro. i am also a hobbyist myself and have already amassed a lot of tools for this hobby.

i am planning to build an attached pergola in the coming days. what price range are you looking into? radiata pine costs about 50/bft, airdried and untreated i guess. i heard of a supplier near my place in consolacion who is selling airdried phil mahogany (dlauan) for around 30/bft. i will check it i guess on monday or tuesday.

    pm me if youre interested.

here's what i have gathered after various trips to the lumber yards:

    1. the yard in consolacion - mahogany @ 28/bft airdried. lumber is left out in the open and there are checks at the edges. probably unstable and prone to warping. if you must use these, you have to stock it indoors for around 6 months to stabilize its moisture.

    2. armourwood (available at home builders) - radiata pine @ 87/bft kiln dried and treated. this is a beautiful softwood imported from new zealand. very nice and stable but pricey

    3. budget builders - mahogany (45/bft) & lauan (55/bft) - kiln dried already so it should be stable and straight. they also have yakal at 80/bft and its very heavy. perfect for outdoor projects

im building myself a pergola this weekend and im thinking of the yakal for the beam. bro, let's open up a thread at hobbies so we can openly share our woodworking projects!
