Most people have this assumption that, for a movie to be funny, you can enter the moviehouse or load the DVD, whatever your current mood is, and then expect to laugh while watching the said movie. I beg to differ.
Comedies and/or movies on humour have a culture associated with it, a culture that could be totally unknown to you, in that you will find yourself sitting in the dust, in deep thought, wondering why you never got to laugh why the movie was playing. For instance, take parodies or lampoons. Let's take an even more specific example. Recently, the movie "300" was spoofed in the comedy "Meet the Spartans". Now I ask you, would you still laugh at the Britney scene, if you had absolutely no knowledge of who Britney Spears is, or what she has been doing?
If you watched Ace Ventura 2 without seeing the first one, your "corniness sensitivity" would naturally be doubled, due to the fact that you couldn't relate as to WHY he acts in such a bizarre manner in some scenes (primarily due to the fact that you didn't see the first part, which would probably partly explain why he acts in such a manner).
So the next time you want to watch a comedy and really want to enjoy it, prepare to be equipped with the culture behind the movie, to totally appreciate the funny scenes.
