After Illidan got his ass got kicked by Arthas, he started to fall into insanity. In his mind, he thinks he was the one who won the duel and Kil'jaeden is praising him. Still, he managed to capture the Warden Maiev Shadowsong, and imprisoned her with Akama as her jailer.
Unknown to him, Akama has been planning to overthrow him. Akama's followers are known as the Ashtongue Deathsworn. They know where Akama's plans will lead but not his method. Still they follow him even if Akama will ask them into a suicide missions.
Akama was one of the most gifted draenei priests. He has the ability to glimpse into the future. He foresaw that the draenei was going to be exterminated if he cannot find a way to escape that fate. He found Illidan during WC3 FT and helped him overthrow the demons. However after that was accomplished Illidan trapped part of Akama's soul so that Akama will continue to serve him. Akama found that his people was still slaves but to another master.
