People always complain about things getting expensive... "mahal kaau isda, karne, gasolina, pamliti hasta pandesal", but in the end... they still able to afford it... It doesn't mean that we are really poor, we are just not used to the new set of prices on our basic commodities... :mrgreen:

Mao lage na paga ingnon na REKLAMADOR lang gyud kaau ta mga Pinoy . Asa ka kakita ug mga 9 - 5 people human maka afford pa ug massage , good time , inom gamay or agbay ug chix didto . Virtually sa US imposible na mahitabo unless naay DATE gyud mahitabo or special occasions unlike sa PIlipinas halos taga adlaw siya .

Speaking of cellphones , kami sa US basta maka avail ug libre na phone hala kuhaon .... bahala ug 2 years contract siya kay libre man . Sa Cebu or Pilipinas in general ? Magpamahalay pa ug phone .... mo naog na gani ang value sa phone anywhere below 20 K , tsk tsk tsk time to change na pod kay outdated na daw .... hehehe asa ang pobre ana if mo focus ka sa logic ?

i think our country is poor but at least, we're not the poorest one. but then again, that doesn't mean that we should be contented with that.

the structure of the government itself is conducive to corruption... plus the fact that the gap between the poor and the elite in this country is extreme, it's really hard to say that we're so poor nor are we wealthy. look at USA for example, it's safe to say that majority of their population belong to the middle class.

The situation here in the Philippines is pretty much like in Indonesia or even Thailand... Going to those places just reminds anyone of any place here in the Philippines -- the roads, the flyovers, the squatter colonies, the airports, the countryside, the big cities, etc..... In Bangkok for example, there are also shanties below flyovers aside from the fact that they once had the most unstable government in Southeast Asia (dubbed as the Italy of Asia, aside from South Korea)..

Fortunately, the Philippines is better off than Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar.... At least we rank equally along with Thailand and Indonesia...

but if only we had less of corruption and more of love for this nation, we could probably do better than the rest of the countries in Asia.

Peso continues fall amid rallies, rate hike

The peso was battered yesterday by the continued political uncertainty and the US Federal Reserve's decision to raise by a quarter of a percentage point as it closed 9 centavos lower to 56.325 per dollar from 56.235 the previous day.

Traders said the currency was hurt by worries of fresh political protests and the dollar's strength after a rise in US rates.

The peso fell to 56.3050 per dollar after opening at 56.25, stopping short of Tuesday's two-month trough of 56.37.

Palace slashes growth target for next year

Economic planners cut the economic growth forecast next year by a percentage point with high oil prices seen dampening consumer demand.

Gross domestic product (GDP) growth for 2006 is now expected at 5.7 to 6.3 percent, lower than the original target of 6.3 to 7.3 percent, Dennis Arroyo said, policy and planning chief at the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda).
