thanks everyone for the wonderful suggestions...
2 x Intel QX9775 and Intel D5400XS "Skulltrail" are specialized hardware mura impractical ra kaayo for me coz it need more expensive and lesser options na casing and other hardware to pair with it. plus it doesnt perform twice as fast as one quad core for its price thats more than double the cost. impractical.

harvz86 im considering that but decided to come up with two full running computers in the end of this upgrade. basically getting the best of the rig now that my staff who inherits it wont need (like the 3TB storage) and move that to the new rig. old rig gets a 320gb or something.

grss1982 im using 32bit...assigning 1gb as ram drive for ps primary scartch disk. works out great for me btw add the /PAE switch to the boot.ini file, this will access the full 4GB, but will limit 2GB to the OS and 2GB to other programs. If you add the /3GB switch after the /PAE it will allocate 1GB RAM to the OS, and 3GB to all other apps.

vern i just got a new samsung 22" 3000:1 2ms display yesterday which is super sweet. so my staff inherits the 19" i was using pior together with the old rig
yes i have specific programs that needs xp pro.
i prefer mid towers if possible. huot kaayo ako room.
dual monitors ive tried before but with my limited space it was just impractical. the 22" im using now is as big as i go i think.it already covers 80% of my computer table.
online backup is useless for me coz i got crappy DSL service here pointless gyud sad coz i got 3TBs of photo datas which would be my pimary reason to get a backup online if its viable. that much data i think is too much for online at this point.

ry, im already using 2x2GB of Dual Channel rams corsiar. will probably get the same or kingston for the new rig depending on the motherboard. il call you later...tnx!

DrE & butitoy, wala man cap. i just want practical solutions pud (i dont have money to burn sad noh hehehe). i think 2 x extreme QX9775 is very impractical. overly prices top of the top line simply isnt an option. didto lang ko sa top of the line na practical buy gyapon (considering), btw, i cant wait for november. i want it dont this week latest next week.

do i still need 2x video cards? i dont play games. i dont think photoshop requires heavy VC performance...or am i wrong?

hmm, i neglected to consider SSD. ill look into that more. big help you guyz! keep the suggestions coming...tnx.

    heheheheh

skulltrail is a bit impractical indeed...just for the heck of posting a dream machine.

u wud need the the videocards' extra ommp when u use photoshop cs4..with gpu enabled rendering..

and i believe u'r also into video rendering.. a 4870 x2 will be a gud investment..

and 2x 4870x2 is impractical too.

    hehehhehe

    gud luck bro.

    and a 2x 160gb 7200.11 with 16mb of cache @ raid0 for a total of 320gb 32mb cache will be a gud os and scratchdisk

video rendering...no so much...rarely to be more precise...
the occasional video conversion from xvid to psp or mp4(for my phone)
    thats about it. nothing major.

hmmm, cs4 is a long ways off...i could get the video card when the time comes cguro.as for now i have an extra 128mb nvidia (para pud magamit to sayang man) i can pair with the old rig. im thinking of keeping the 7600GS for the new rig for the mean time since cs3 wont benifit much from a new set of VC diba? by the time cs4 comes out the 4870 x2 would me much cheaper

That seems to be an interesting tip. I think I'm gonna do some googling on that.

    Thanks.

the way i see it, muzikfreakah is closest to what you will probably want to do mark: quad core, max out that ram and get a good solid board that lets you shove in at least 2 pcie vidcards(like a blitz extreme, sample lang), and satas all around. of course, you will need a decent cooling system for this, kana lang siguro ma add nako.

have you considered getting a mac pro? i find rendering on a mac as a whole new different experience, imho; and working on a mac pro (with your 22" samsung) would simply be awesome.

my suggestion would be getting a lower end x48 board for the best performance @stock, a q9450 and reuse everything else and maybe add another 4gb kit. if you dont want to go vista, xp pro x64 would be a great alternative, also you might wanna consider a 30 inch lcd, i mean 4 mega pixels of real estate on a single monitor is just awesome (used to have 22 and 24, no contest).

mao sad - bootcamp? what i like about macs is automate - your computer can do everything for you once you set it right; you can do the same thing with PCs man sad. pero xp japon ko. too much versatility to pass on. for me, basta maka abli lang lightroom and photoshop together na dili mo kamang, payts na na.

on another note, on cs4, grabe na jud daw ka paspas. for example, when you apply filters and stuff, almost instantaneous daw ang pag render due to the video card incorporation. that's something to look forward to. anywho, i wish you all the best for your new rig.

here is my feedback on what happened.

i took to heart advises from many of you including the use of SSD, 4870 or 4850 video card, silverstone, etc.

the thing is, after 2 weeks of looking, i couldnt find SSD or 4850/4870 available in cebu.
i couldnt even find the x48 board in stock. needless to say i eventually gave up on building a better computer. instead i got a cheap asus board (with built in video) + 2gb ddr2 ram to work with my existing C2D and that was that. i even kept my old 750W power supply as i found it better than the silverstone. yeah gave the silverstone to my staff nalang. sayang diba. tsk tsk.

the only thing i got new for my pc is the Quad core and screwless case (rotated hdd bays with easy adaptors). kept the board, videocard, memory, etc. moved to vista.
vista indexed my setup 5.7 to 5.9 for the most part except the videocard @ 4.7.
i guess i didnt need the ssd afterall.
sayagan ko gasto 12k for the 3870 when i know 4870 will be available anytime soon and more than twice the performance. happy naman sad ko sa 4.7 rating since i dont play games. CS4 is still beta.
il get the 4870/4850 when it becomes available or when CS4 final version is released and tested.
i think thats the only thing i need to upgrade. other than that my rig is still top notch i think

btw, comment lang ko sa vista. i dont see any speed difference for the most part specially sa ps and other imaging software ran similarly, no great boost. noise ninja ra ko ka bantay na faster sya either coz of vista or sa quad core.

in particular two of my programs can't even get above 50% usage on each core (naa ra sa 10-40% each). autopano and photomatix still as slow as before even though naay option ang pano for quadcore optimaization. i still wait 30mins to render a project that was quite large and complex and sad to see the core's arent being utilized to full.

another thing worth noting is that after updating everyhing in vista my CS3 crashed already sayng kaayo ako work na lost kay wa nako ma save firefox 3 crashed 4x already. other programs have seen instability as well. even the sidebar has crashed once and asked to restart it.
all these i didnt experience when using xp. mas stable pa akong sidebar sa xp.
two of my filters in CS3 didnt work in vista good thing i found an alternative filter that did the same (a little learning curve need to adjust but thats ok).
lastly my HP printer is not supported in VISTA
wahhhh. la nakoy large format printer...well had to use generic driver to do the most basic printing. calibration, cleaning and stuff isnt available anymore

il try the ready boost feature once i find the time maybe that will improve performance better. regarding stability anyone can help me out? anyone experiencing instability on vista too?

im thinking of moving back to XP for the time being (until i can test vista with stability and i can decide on getting a new large format printer with vista support)
