Imelda: I can get Arroyo OK for Marcos burial at Libingan
Former first lady Imelda Marcos is confident that she can convince President Arroyo to allow the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, abs-cbnNEWS.com learned Sunday.
Mrs. Marcos said it's just a "matter of timing" and she will be able to convince the President to allow her husband to lay beside the other Philippine presidents and heroes at the heroes' cemetery.
She, however, denied talk that she and the President had a deal regarding her husband's burial in exchange of Ilocos Norte Rep. Imee Marcos's absence in the plenary voting for the Arroyo impeachment complaint at the House of Representatives last week.
"I had no deal with President Arroyo," she said.
The former first lady said she will meet with Mrs. Arroyo to present the one million signatures she gathered as proof that many people favor the former president's burial at the Libingan.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Marcos said she had advised her daughter, Imee, not to take part in the scheduled meeting of pro-impeachment congressmen on Monday.
The meeting was called to find out why lawmakers who endorsed the impeachment complaint against President Arroyo failed to appear in the plenary voting last Tuesday.
She said also that she convinced Imee to go abroad and avoid the plenary session last week.
Imee returned home from Singapore late Thursday but declined to be interviewed by reports at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The former first lady said she had advised her daughter to distance herself from the political bickering between the opposition and the administration.
