coz bro ur already putting a notion by asking whether it's anti life. u didn't even give the option "or not" to help us think d flipside. bisan naa pa nay "?" or wla, d word "anti-life" itself already gives a hint what to think about this bill. that's why its really unfair for the people who made this & are in favor of this bill. it's better to just state the full name of the bill as the title and let istoryans' opinions roll for the rest of the thread. kay ako in favor jud ra ba ko ani nga bill.

we cannot be forever be depriving the Filipinos of their rights to have a sound reproductive health. Contraceptives are the safe and effective means not only in family planning but also in protective intercourse. moreover, the Church cannot stop anyone from engaging in intercourse outside the context of matrimony.

Vidal won’t ban ‘anti-life’ solons

CEBU Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal yesterday urged legislators who support the “Deaths” bills to search their conscience and decide whether or not to receive communion.

“If they think they have not sinned, it is up to them. I cannot judge their conscience, it is only God who can judge their conscience. I just tell them there is no such a thing as a lesser evil,” said the archbishop.

He acknowledged that a House bill that defines a national policy on “reproductive health, responsible parenthood and population development” does not support abortion.

But he added: “The means could lead to (abortion) and it will later on lead to euthanasia.”

The cardinal’s statement, made at least twice yesterday, came a day after Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, backed action to deny communion to any politician who supports legalizing abortion.

No major Catholic politicians back abortion, but several support moves to promote family planning methods that would include contraceptives, which are forbidden by the church.

During the weekend, an official of Human Life International described as “anti-life and anti-God” two Cebuano lawmakers who confirmed support for House Bill 4110.

Human Life coined the term “deaths” to describe bills that, according to the group, will enable divorce, euthanasia, abortion, total population control, homosexual union and *** education.

Cardinal Vidal clarified he is not banning legislators from partaking of the Eucharist.

Reminder

“On the controversial move to deny Holy Communion to those legislators who actively push into law the proposal to legalize abortion, I would like to clarify that the call is actually a reminder to the consciences of all that abortion is a grave moral evil and therefore, anyone who effectively allows or intends it commission is a cooperator in the murder of an innocent human life,” Cardinal Vidal said.

He issued the statement after giving his Bisaya homily for the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmelite at the Carmelite Monastery in Barangay Mabolo yesterday morning.

“I do not have illusions that his brief explanation will put to rest this lively debate. I hope, though, that I have contributed something to the clarification of the issues,” the prelate also said.

Earlier, Cebu Archdiocesan media liaison officer Msgr. Achilles Dakay and Ozamiz Archbishop Jesus Dosado urged legislators supporting the reproductive health bills to listen to their conscience and refrain from receiving communion.

Cardinal Vidal added yesterday that legislators should take a clear stand in the population debate.

“You cannot go to the table of the Lord and to the table of the demon at the same time,” said Vidal.

‘Subservience’

In his homily yesterday afternoon during the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Guadalupe parish, Cardinal Vidal questioned the argument that the reproductive health bills, if they become law, would help the poor.

“That’s the problem with them (legislators), they talk about legality and we are talking about morality,” said Vidal.

Former president Fidel Ramos, a Protestant, chided President Arroyo last week for not having a comprehensive family planning policy due to “unwarranted subservience” to the Catholic church.

The country has about 473,000 abortions yearly, accounting for one-third of the estimated unplanned pregnancies, while two out of five women who want contraceptives don’t have access to them, the United Nations Population Fund has said.

The country’s population has been growing by two percent per year and is projected to reach 90 million this year.

In Metro Manila, a city councilor said that priests have threatened to deny him communion for writing an ordinance promoting birth control among young people.

Embarrassment

Joseph Juico, a Quezon City councilor, said he has avoided communion while attending Sunday Mass and has planned his wedding next month in another town to avoid any embarrassment.

He said the threat was made during a meeting with a group of priests who tried to persuade him not to push the measure last August. It was passed in February.

Juico clarified reports that priests threatened to deny him a church wedding, saying that wasn’t true.

“But if there’s one thing they told me, it is that they will deny me communion,” he said. “I was really caught off-guard.”

Fr. Aris Sison, who was at the meeting, denied the priests had threatened Juico. “He was not told, ‘If you continue this, we will ban you,’” he said.

Sison said that during a “light moment” in their meeting, the priests discussed reports of American Catholic bishops denying communion for the same reasons.

from my point of view, family planning is not an abortion. ang sperm cell maka "landing or touchdown" sa egg cell kay it's the start of life. so since contraceptives or other family planning methods is to avoid contact between the sperm and egg cells, so it's not really an abortion. ambot kung naka sabot b mo.

obviously, the church only wants to multiply their flock & make itself more & more powerful as new generations come. is it really "pro life" & be "God-loving" NOT to have protective ***? My god! its business to them. Wawarts ni. That's why we need this bill. ASAP.

Contraceptives are the safe and effective means not only in family planning but also in protective intercourse.

On the contrary, these so-called "modern" contraceptives are unhealthy and are actually abortifacients. The IUD, pill, mini-pill, Depo-Provera, and others all have a baackup method in case they fail to prevent ovulation. They change the uterine wall, creating a "hostile endometrium", which does not allow the fertilized egg (which is already a human being) to implant. With nowhere to cling to, the baby is eventually flushed out and destroyed. This is an early chemical abortion.

There are also medical side effects to these chemicals and devices. There have been reports of bleeding, increase in the likelihood of cancer, depression, mood swings, etc.

These abortifaceints should be banned. They directly violate the Philippine Constitution which explicitly recognizes and protects the life of the unborn from the moment of conception (Article II, Section 12, Philippine Constitution).

Overpopulation is a myth. The real causes of poverty are massive corruption, inidscriminate debt servicing, war, and greed. We have all of these in the Philippines right now. Population control will do NOTHING to solve these causes. Population control wastes resources on such useless measures that do not address the real problems and in fact takes attention away from them as well.

Railroading a Deadly Agenda

Imagine a doctor or health worker being sentenced to a prison term simply because he or she refused to prescribe — or refer someone who would prescribe — an abortifacient “contraceptive”. Imagine being fined and jailed for staying true to your pro-life convictions. Could that ever happen in the Philippines?

Well it just might if the latest “reproductive health” bill is passed in the Philippine Congress!

The bill, known as the “Reproductive Health and Population Development Act of 2007″, has a number of highly objectionable provisions. Here are just a few of them:

• Section 9 (Hospital-Based Family Planning) specificially subsidizes the use of IUDs (insertion of the device is performed in a hospital). The IUD, however, is NOT a contraceptive. It is an ABORTIFACIENT. The IUD does not prevent ovulation. Rather, it works by affecting the uterine wall so that it prevents a fertilized ovum — which is already a human being — from implanting. The Philippine Constitution specifically protects human life from the moment of conception. The IUD clearly violates that principle.
  
• Section 16 (Ideal Family Size) defines the “ideal family size” as having two children. This idea has no scientific basis whatsoever and further perpetuates the myth of “overpopulation”, which has been discredited around the world. Poverty in the Philippines is NOT caused by overpopulation, but by massive government corruption and economic mismanagement. This so-called “ideal” number of children is also below replacement level, which is 2.1. Should this be be widely practiced, the Philippines will soon be faced with the prospect of population stagnation and population ageing. There are no economic structures or even agreed-upon solutions to counteract the grave negative economic effects of such a situation in the Philippines.
  
• Section 21 (Prohibited Acts), number 5 mandates that any health care provider who refuses to dispense certain services or information based on religious grounds (for example, a Catholic health worker who will not dispense IUDs or other abortifacients like the birth control pill), is still forced to recommend a “patient” to someone who will perform the objectionable deed! To make such a referral, however, still makes the conscientious objector an accomplice in the objectionable act. Those who refuse to make such a referral are threatened with 1-6 months imprisonment and a fine of P10,000-50,000. This provision is therefore highly coercive and tramples upon religious freedom.

Ramming Through Congress

The bill, with its deadly and corecive agenda, is currently being RAILROADED through the Philippine Congress in a highly irregular manner. This is detailed in a report (shown below this post) from the Bishops-Legislators Caucus on the status of this and other similar bills in the Philippine legislature. Take note that the consolidated reproductive health bill passed the Health Committee of the Lower House in just two minutes, without any debate or discussion! There was no technical working group formed to make the substitite bill, which is in violation of a Constitutional requirement. Something smells rotten in Congress!

This situation has all the elements of a deadly, tragic farce: a bill that is coercive, has no scientific basis, and violates the Constitution is being rammed down our throats without the people in general even knowing aboiut it. Talk about being shafted!
