it's God... only He can fill our emptiness... only He can satisfy our hunger... only He can fill the hole that can never be filled... and no other...

Definitely man cannot live w/o God bec. He is the source of our existence. But if you ask if man can live w/o acknowledging the presence of God, then yes they could live, but it's a life without meaning. A life of an animal. And his/her life will only last on earth. he will never inherit eternal life in heaven.
